The Irish Open In Killarney

    Hi :)

I'm going to the Irish Open this year, and I've never attended one before, but I have some tickets for this year's event. I'm really looking forward to it.I just hope some of the big names in golf will be at it. I know its just after the British Open.

I haven't been to the Killarney course before. Does anyone know about the course and which holes are tough ones? Was thinking about going and just hanging around the 17th or 18th green. But just looking on more info on what the course is like.

Also, where would one advise parking for the event? Is it far from the town of Killarney?

Was at it last year for day 1, found it pretty easy to get parking, I was coming from the Limerick road, so it was just a right turn at the first roundabout before actually entering Killarney and then out that road about a mile or so. Got parking in a field only a minutes walk from main entrance, there seemed to be a good few signs for parking spots, I was there about 11am I think.

The first 5 or 6 holes were great for following groups I found, along by the lake it just looked spectacular.

After Rory's big win at the weekend, I reckon there'll be alot more interest in the Irish Open. Should be great. I got tickets from the Europeantour website, but i bought them a couple of months ago for less than 20 euro each. Not sure if that deal is still on.

I've got accommodation booked, only booked it last week. But definitely best to get accommodation and tickets bought for well in time, just to be sure.

Now lets hope the weather will be good to us :)

There was a grandstand by the 17th green last year, I'd recommend it assuming it's there this year. It's also next to the 18th tee so you can watch their teeshots after they've finished on 17.

You should have no problem getting parking at the course. It's a few miles outside the town.

What Was the traffic like last year getting into Killarney and probably more importantly getting out afterwards, only 2 roads into the town so I'd imagine it was a disaster

tickets here where cheaper than ticketmaster last year, due to fees tm charge, also notice how much cheaper they are than the gate price!

Think its €30 at the gate. Picked up mine from Ticketmaster for €27 (2 euro booking charge) so not too bad.

You can get 2 adult 4 day tickets(and practise rounds if you want) for 75 euro. Works out at €9.38 per day.

Can only answer for the Friday last year but I had no problems. Arrived there at 8.30am and left about 3pm. Not a bother getting in or out. Car parks are close to the course.

Could someone please tell me where this course is for someone coming into Killarney from Farranfore/Castleisland on the N22? I can't see anywhere called the 'Killarney Golf & Fishing Club' on Google or Garmin maps.

Go right at the first roundabout you meet and right at the next roundabout, its straight on about 2 miles from there(you wont have to go near the town itself).your basically heading towards Killorglin, just follow the traffic!!

Thanks, I found out from www.europeantour.com that it's the Kileen course which on the map is on the Killorglin Road (N72) out of Killarney.

You'd think it would be deadly. But we arrived at around 9am, parked about 200metres from the front gate.........Afterwards we spent about 10minutes in slow moving traffic and were on the open road.

    It's extremely well managed.:)

Any 'big names' besides Rory and Paddy likely to play in this?

Just headin' down for the Saturday. Think I'll avoid Rory's group altogether if he makes the cut, I'd imagine it'll be bedlam.

Why would they be playing? It will be a similar field to the last few years.

The Irish open should really be on a links course in the weeks leading up to the British open. A far better field would be attracted then.

I doubt the Scottish and French Opens will agree to that.

This year will be a real shot in the arm for the irish open. They currently have no sponser. Id imagine their will be companies tripping over each other to sponser it now.

'A tournament now firmly established in the European Tour, The Irish Open returns to Killarney at the end of the month and big stars like Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, and Charl Schwartzel will be there. You could be there too as we have 25 pairs of tickets up for grabs right here at todayfm.com.'

According to todayfm Donald and Schwartzel are to play. Dont see there name on the entry list. Any fear the european tour just forgot to put there names down!!!!!!!!

Maybe Today FM know something we don't. Doubt they will be in Killarney in two weeks,
would love to be wrong though.
