Ban junk food

Heroin is outlawed because it's dangerous. We should also outlaw junkfood because it's dangerous, causes obesity which leads to bad health and it means decent tax payers such as myself have to fork out money so these people can be treated for various diseases they get along the way. Banning junk food would save society alot of money and people would be healthier. Now you people say, what about my freedom etc. I say we can allow junk food IF everyone has to shoulder their own costs of health care but that is not the way that the system works so therefore we should ban junk food.

There's going too far and there's going too far...... but banning junk food is beyond either!

When you walk past a McDonalds and see parents stuffing their fat kids full with fries and coca cola it's obvious that people can't handle freedom, and decent people such as myself end up paying for it through taxes. People can't handle freedom so there ought to be limits to it.

But banning junk food is taking away the freedom of those who like to indulge once in a while and enjoy it for what it is - a treat.

I agree we should ban whiteonion.

No more liberties should be taken away because a minority of society are barely able to grasp the concept of rationing.

Education is the answer to every problem but those in charge can't seem to understand that.

So, heroin should be legal to because some people can "indulge once in a while" without getting addicted? I consider junk food to be almost as bad as heroin. Look at your average American and see what junk food has done to this person.

Junk food is an addiction, once you are an addict education doesn't help. There are plenty of well educated people who suffer various forms of addiction.

No there shouldn't be. I eat junk food most days, but it doesn't matter as I exercise and I am as skinny as a lath. Laziness is the problem, not food. Fat lazy people will just find something else to gorge on.

Take a look at the obesity epidemic in America, it costs society way more money than heroin addicts. Obviously junk food is very bad for society.

What about fatsos who don't eat junk food? I know a vegetarian who's a big fat stinking fat disgusting flabbo - and she doesn't eat any meat, or junk food - and she's human, apparently. Should we do something to her?

She eats way too many carbs, she should convert to a diet consisting mainly of meat.

Exactly, there are enough books, food shows, etc to inform you what a chicken nugget really is. (thanks Jamie Oliver haven't been to McDonalds since!!)

Your body is a finely tuned machine like your car engine, give it what it needs to run perfectly.

If children were better educated on how addictive and nasty junk food is the demand for it would eventually die out anyway.

Well you are never going to be able to ban it but I'd agree on a junk food tax for all. It's just too cheap and people are eating too much of it.

And I'd define it as junk food as highly processed food. A lot of grey areas though because there are some processed foods that are seen as healthy by many such as flora. Bread is another thing that is processed, but is the staple of many peoples' diet. They could start with cakes, biscuits, milk chocolate, pre packaged, frozen meals etc. There's still a grey area there though.

I don't see it happening anytime soon though, but something does need to be done. The country is just too fat and the junk IS the cause of 99% of the excess weight.

Yes but there is hardly any education out there as to the negative effects of junk food. Junk food should have warning messages on them just like cigarette packets have. On bars of chocolate and crisps etc, there should be a warning message that consuming these products will result in tiredness, lethargy and possibly depression.

All margarines are junk food by definition.
Bread consists of many calories but has very little nutritional value, ALL bread is junk food.

Its not all to do with the sh!te food they eat.

I blame computer games. Instead of running around a field kicking a ball, kids are sitting around a screen clicking on their joypads.

Yes fruit is bad for you, they consist mainly of sugar and water + small amounts of vitamin C. Fruit is not very healthy for you, too bad many people have fallen for the whole fruit is healthy mantra.

Like everything else its only bad for you if you eat to much. What about anti oxidants and such?

To the person who talked about the fat veggie. Some veggies survive on cheese and carbs so it can be a slippery slope to fat land if your not careful.

I think that will happen at some point though.

Advertising has alot to answer for, example:

Ad for some toddler milk formula drink thing, you know the one, 'your baby would have to drink this much milk (mother carrying giant suppy cup) to get the same amount of iron as he would from this particular brands small milk drink.'

In really small text at the bottom of the advert it says 'MILK IS NOT A GOOD SOURCE OF IRON'!!!!!!

So parents are lead to believe that this processed toodler food product is really healthy and full of iron. When in reality the toodler should be getting his iron source from REAL food.

Adverts are dangerous for uneducated people!!!

Jesus I'm actually going to just leave this thread, white onion you are full of ****E.

Our closest relations are chimps, and their diets consist mainly of FRUIT and in emergencies when fruit is scarce they eat small amounts of raw meat.

It really is. Diet is by far and away the greatest cause of obesity levels.

Low activity levels contribution to obesity is vastly exaggerated.

Fruit are bad for your teeth, ask any dentist. If fruit destroys your teeth I'm scared to think what it does to the rest of your body.
