I just got offered a ticket to this so hopefully Trap doesn't field a team of McShane's and there will be a decent crowd at it. 3-1 Ireland would be my guess.

Edit- I should also clarify that this game is on tomorrow.

Has Trap relesed who the starting 11 will be yet? Just he usually names the team a day or two before the game.

Nothing up on the FAI website about it as of yet.

Team has now been named, as I just heard it on the news (can't remember it though sorry!). Myself and the young lad are just back from seeing the team train and meeting them, at Tallaght Stadium. He also got pics with the Cup (Nice trophy)...and now can't wait for the match tomorrow. Crowd will be much bigger for tomorrow's match I've heard.

Its a good competition to give caps to a few players who wouldn't normally get a chance to play.
Pity about the poor crowds though

someone know is Seamus Coleman or Kevin Foley injured or missing or what....because WHY THE F**K IS PAUL MC F**KING SHANE STARTING AGAIN?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,247 ✭✭✭Meglamonia

The back line is absolutley brutal again witht he exception of Ward who's the only decent fella there.Hopefully they get more of a crowd for this game on the RTE site they reckon there will be around 25,000.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,276 ✭✭✭IRISHSPORTSGUY

Someone should remind Trap, Kelly is the full back and McShane is the centre back.

Ah come on Trap, why is McShane in there ahead of Coleman at right back? Seems like Trap doesnt want to win his only chance of a Trophy with the Republic.

I know! It's infuriating. In fact, just seeing McShane in the squad is infuriating period.

Give it a chance to establish itself will you, only a true idiot would post a comment like this ^^ on a subject they don't care about. You do realize that this was the attitude of people when the Euro's first started out. England amongst other big European nations turned their noses up at it a few times in the early days. Would you say the Euro's are a stupid tournament at a stupid time now? I thought not! A competition will never start off and be a huge success from the get go. It may not be the worlds greatest tournament but then again neither was the Icelandic Triangular (you probably don't have a clue what that is ;)) This small tournament played a key role in qualification for Euro 88 according to the Irish players.

I have no problem with McShane, he give his all on the pitch and all of that but when he starts ahead of a much better player its really frustrating to see, but kinda gotten used to this carry on ever since Trap has taken over.

In fairness, boards.ie is not a fair representation of those who are interested in this Cup. It seems to be that those who aren't interested, are here to express their lack of interest...and others, who are interested, are buying tickets and going to the matches.

Well said, kinda sick of it at this stage about people running their mouth on here about people not giving a toss about the games but yet they are able to come on here and spew their hate.
If you dont care about it then dont bother talking crap about it and do something more constructive with your life.

I was at Tuesdays match. And I'm going tomorrow, with my 9yr old (I'm his mam). And we got tickets to see the team train today in Tallaght stadium. The atmosphere was great there today, as it was at Tuesdays match and as it will be tomorrow.

You either support your country in International Football, no matter what you think of their skills or a (supposed) Cup that they might just win tomorrow. Or you sit at your laptop and come on boards and complain that they're crap.

Im old enough to remember Euro 88, Italia 90 and USA 94 - and yes, the football might not have been the best for some matches, but I didn't know you could only support your country if they played great football?

I'll be there when they lift their first cup tomorrow...I most certainly WON'T be here, moaning.

But it will be spoiled when Kenny Miller lifts the cup :p

Great attitude to have, while i dont agree with some of Traps selection policies it still wouldn't put me off from supporting my country, after all he oozes experience at his age and has huge experience in the game.

Hey Fittle, I believe they won a small trophy in 1988 so if they win tomorow Itll be the second! Oh and lets hope that next year our man Robbie will be lifting the H. Delanuay trophy!

Aw how cool was that! Did you look at the attendance at those matches:eek: Though McGrath scored:D I've met him a few times and am trying to educate the young lad on all things McGrath (& Cantona):D Tomorrow is number two so:D

It was two years before I was born so don't have much info on it. Its generally considered the starting point of the successful couple of years after that though. I'd hope winning tomorrow will achieve the same, I really think we've a lot to be positive about at the minute.

I wonder was there even a trophy for this tournament? It'd be interesting to see it if so.

I doubt very much that you'd be interested in seeing that cup. I imagine you'd just complain about the lack of interest/attendance in it. Are you going to tomorrows match?

Yeah I'll be there. Will you? Oh that's right you've already said so 15 times.

FYI I wanted this tournament to be a success. Unfortunately it was clearly organised by a committee of chimpanzees and disregarded by all teams involved. The fact that Ireland are being allowed to play good football in it just shows how seriously they're not taking it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭stiffler123

Will they be doing this tournament again or is it a one off? It would have been nice to have England, France or Italy in it. A match with any of those would fill the stadium.

Its not an FAI tournament its been organised by the 4 Celtic nations taking part and it will be held again but in one of the other three countries

I find the use of the extremely American phrase of "period" much more infuriating than the inclusion in the team of McShane.

I disagree. McShane is more infuriating than Americanisms full-stop.

Well I have always known that we won that little tournament but never really thought that we might have got a trophy. It was only in work when myself and my friend were having a chat about the NI V Rep game that he mentioned he was at this particular tournament and indeed he said there was a trophy awarded. I wonder would it still be knocking about somewhere in the FAI...

Indeed, its going to be held every two years. 2013 its in Whales at the Millennium stadium. Remember that the six nations in rugby wasn't always the "six" nations. So there's every possibility that this tournament will be expanded. Lets hope so as it would only serve to help us do better in the Euro's and WC.

England will get involved if it means they can fill Wembley half a dozen times. Money talks. That's something of a big if, going by the Norn Iron - Wales game, though.

I hope the competition takes off. The Six Nations is great craic in Rugby, and I know the circumstances and standings of the teams are very different in the two sports, but the rivalry between the fans is very much the same.

Yeah, because the other teams aren't as good as them and a loss in it would have the English media crucify them.

Nope. It's political and nothing to do with football. We all know that. Hopefully, by 2013, things might be more relaxed.

Do you seriously think that the FAI want English fans at the Aviva, having seen the reception a miserable 200 NI fans got, with the booing for the national anthem and the abuse that was thrown at them for the flying of the Union Jack?

Trouble..with a capital T, and trouble that the FAI don't want right now while they are trying to advertise and publicise the stadium as a tourist attraction.

Do you really think the FAI had any decision in whether England played in this tournament or not? England didn't enter this tournament as they knew it had no benefit to them.

It's farcical to think Ireland would have any choice in England playing in this tournament :pac:
