    Hi all,
At the start of February I weighed about 172 pounds(28 yr old male). My diet and exercise regime was poor. Since then I have tried to eat more healthy and I also try to exercise every day. My weight at present is down to 154 pounds. A lot of people have commented on the amount of weight I have lost and stated I should not lose any more. I still have a bit of a gut and am wondering if anyone could clarify what my weight should be(roughly).
    Any assistance is appreciated!!

Your ideal weight depends greatly on your height and frame size. No point giving your weight without at least giving your height.

You should go see your GP if you are losing that much weight in a short amount of time, he/she will probably test you for Diabeties

I wouldn't have thought losing 18lbs in 4 months was much?

Either did I. It's about a pund and a half per week. Surely that's healthy weighty loss. Any idea on what wait I should b?

No expert here, but I would make a few points.
    1. At 28, male and 172lbs and 5' 10" you were not over weight IMO and did not really need to lose weight.
    2. I don't think that an 18lb weight loss over 16 weeks is excessive, however at your height and as you were not "over weight" to begin with, I imagine that you may look a little guant to folks now, especially folks who you do not see all the time.
    3. I certainly would not recommend that you lose any more weight. In fact I would encourage you to look into putting back on some lean muscle. You should not get hung up over you "weight" IMO. I think it is more beneficial to work on body composition, as in what percentage of your weight is body fat. A figure in the low double digits is not an unreasonable goal.
    4. I don't put a lot of faith in those online "ideal weight" calculators tbh. According to them I (male, 48, 5' 6") should be around 147 lbs - 150 lbs. So I would be calssed as obese by both the "ideal weight" calculators and BMI scale as I am actually 175 lbs, but with 12% body fat and 31 inch waist I think I am fairly lean and I will look to add more lean size through the winter, up to maybe another 14lbs.

18 weeks 18 pounds, pretty much exactly what good weight lose should be.
If you are very over weight, obviously you can lose more per week

TBH, the first 3 points are contradictory to the third.
Everyone is talking about weight in this thread, when the truth is nobody here can say as we can't see him. nobody has mention the difference between fat and weight, which is what you alluded to in you last point and pretty much key here.

OP, what matters is your body make up, ie lean mass verses fat mass. Your weight is only a guide, if you were 18 stone, its pretty safe to assume you are carrying too much fat. It you are 9 stone, its safe to say you are too skinny. But in the mid range, we can't really say.

Your "weight" wasn't too high at 172. (I'm about 176 @ same height)
But you could easily have low muscle mass, and high body fat.
Or you could be in a acceptable range and been perfectly fine. (I think 170 is perfect for me at the minute)

    But, and this is my no means anything more than speculation, the fact that;
    1. You felt you were overweight to begin with
    2. You lost 18 lbs simply by eating right and excercise
    3. You still have a bit of a gut left

Would suggest that you were carrying too much fat and had little muscle mass. You've addressed the fat issue somewhat, and in my view you should concentrate on the muscle part before you try and lose any more fat. Start resistance training, weights, heavy lifting. and keep eating well. Lots of protein.

The good news is, that weight that is mostly muscle, and not fat, your body fat % will continue to drop. The fat you have will spread out over a bigger frame, and you'll look better even though the scales reading goes up.
