Will you be watching the CL final? (Even though your team is not in it)

So either your team failed to make the CL final or they just weren't playing in the competition at all.
Are you still going to watch it?
Apart from the obvious reason (Hoping to see Barca or Man U fail?)
    What other reasons are there?

Personally, even though as a Chelsea fan, it hurts like hell, I will still watch it hoping for a good open game of football, but I wont be supporting either team.

    Real won it 9 times

    Milan 7

    Liverpool 5

    Munich and Ajax 4

    Barca, United, and Inter 3

In UK terms other than who is already mentioned, Notts Forest won it twice. Aston Villa and Cetic each won it.ch.

Im gonna try find something else to do. I dont like Barcelona and referee's decisions have been very questionable during their games. I like United but i hate Rooney so much that i cheer against them when he is the team. I wont be happy with either winner so hopefully it doesnt rain and i can go for a nice long walk.

Yeah I'll be watching it with my mate who's a Man U fan! Hopefully it'll be a good spectacle & a Barca win!

Of course, its always enjoyable to watch regardless of who's playing. Im not shouting for either team, I just want a enjoyable game of football to watch.

I'll be watching it mainly to see Messi. I am fascinated by his skills and abilities.

estimates put the viewer figures at 104 million I seriously doubt they are all utd fans :P

Yeah I'll be watching it. Very much dislike Barca but have despised United all my life so I'll be hoping for a Spanish success.

    What a bizarre thread!

Do you think they are on the Gah forum asking will people watch the Intercounty Cup Final because their county isn't in it?

Its the Champions Legue final. One of the teams involved has a legitimate claim to be the worlds best ever club side. Why wouldn't you be watching it if you claim to be a football fan?

Just an excuse to bitch about both teams by the looks of it.

Yeah it is a bizarre thread. You've no business posting on this forum if you're not prepared to watch the biggest club game in the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,224 ✭✭✭✭Marty McFly

Of coarse ill be watching it, while im neither a fan of United or Barcelona in fact I hate United (im a gunner:)) and I hate the play acting of Barcelona. I do think it has the potential to be a great final with two teams who can play entertaining football.

If you are football fan not watching this match makes no sense, its like claiming to be a fan and then not watching the world cup final, the champions league final is the biggest match in football next to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,472 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Training Day is on the same time I think so I'll watch that and the CL on the web. Need Barca to win in 90 for a nice 7/1 treble to come in.

But thats exactly my point and the point of the thread.

Being a such and such football club fan, does NOT mean that everyone is generally a football fan, and some people have the perfect right not to be expected to watch other teams than the ones they support win things.
We may not understand it, but its a fact.

Oh and where are all these "football" fans when Ireland is playing at home in the Nations Cup??

Will watch it with my United supporting mates,I'm going to get really drunk and annoy them when Barca inevitably win!

If I am to be honest I find playing football infinitely more entertaining that watching football especially watching teams I don't support. If that makes me any less of a football fan then so be it.

    I didn't watch last year's final, guess I'm not a football fan.

We may not understand it, but its a fact.

I have never heard of any fan who is so partizan that they wouldn't watch the years biggest football game, which as it happens, has the potential to ba an absolute cracker. Of course they have the 'right' to give it a swerve, but why would you?

Alas I do understand that fans of certain football clubs are not football fans. My opinion on these consumers of football are well known and I couldn't be bothered getting into it now. But my original point is valid. Could you even contemplate this thread appearing on the Gah forum?
Oh and where are all these "football" fans when Ireland is playing at home in the Nations Cup??

Hardly the same thing. A dead duck end of season tourney against poor oppositions third strings and the CL final between two of the worlds biggest and best sides?!? Hardly a comparison

Its not a high moral ground. True, passionate fans of the beautiful game won't miss any CL final, nevermind one between Barca and Man U.

    Occasional consumers of football might.

Its not unreasonable to suggest that serious music fans would never miss Slane or whatever wheres people with a passing interest might not bother.

So what you are saying is that loving playing the beautiful game game makes you less of a fan than loving watching the beautiful game. I know which of those is the "consumer" fans choice

It would just seem odd not to watch a CL final. Even odder if you weren't drinking a beer at the same time.

Yes. Are you seriously arguing otherwise? I have a friend who plays regularly and never watches a game, a Gah man. He isn't a football fan, he just likes a kickabout.

Nothing wrong with it at all, but lets not kid ourselves. Anyone who isn't salivating at the thought of tomorrow isn't a genuine football addict.

Would people watch the World Cup final if they're team wasn't involved ? Of course they would .

Can't see a reason why football fans wouldn't try their best to watch it .

That's very flucking unreasonable to be honest. Kings of Leon are hardly the Barcelona of music.

Its on a Saturday night at 7.45pm to about 9.30pm I can understand why a lot of younger people wouldn't be watching it unless their team was in it. If I was in my early twenties I certainly would be torn as to what I should be at.:D

I'll be watching it, I've not missed a European Cup final since I can remember but it was always on a Wednesday night up until last year.

I'd hate to be a United/Barca fan whose extremely hot bird dislikes football and has some special occasion this saturday. I can tell you I'd prob be looking at the longer term picture(saturady night/sunday morning) and giving the game a miss.:D

Yes i'll be watching - wouldnt miss it ( see my thread starter post)

No interest in the GAH, rugby etc (but do watch the big finals??!!)

Surely supporting your country is the biggest thing? Or are you just supposed to support them in the big tournos then?
    What about qualifiers?

The 100 million viewers of the CL final is no doubt swelled by the people who ONLY watch big finals or the world cup and have no interest in any other games then? Go figure

Right, So some fat old barstooler who supports utd (lets say) because their mates supports them and has never kicked a ball or played the game in their life is more of a football fan in your eyes than someone who actually appreciates and plays the game for the sheer love of the game. Absolute bollix of the highest order imo

You know what I mean. Real cinema heads will have a IFI card. Those with an interest probably won't. There is nothing wrong with having a passing or lesser interest in something than others.

And as far as I am concerned if you don't watch the CL or WC final if you can, you are a minor fan.

Not salivating at all tbh. I'll watch it because it's football but I wouldn't be upset if I missed it. If Sligo Rovers were playing tomorrow I'd prefer to go out to that.

If that person plays the game but doesn't watch it, yes, the barstooler is a bigger FAN. Does he understand the game more, probably not. Is he contributing anything to the sport? Hell no. But you have to concentrate on the word FAN.

Chelsea fan. Will watch it alright.

Had been well up for a Utd. win for some reason, but not really any more. One of the few times I will actually be watching a game as a proper neutral. So 4-4 after 90 mins, 5-5 AET, penalties that go to sudden death pls ;)

That goes without saying. But you are a different proposition, because you are a regular at the Showgies. Its implicit you are a hardcore football fan.

I'll probably watch until I get bored (sometime around the 500th pass between Iniesta and Xavi) I see Terry and June, The Many Faces of June Whitfield and Absolutely Fabulous are on BBC2. Hmmmm.
