They are launching in the same situation as O2! New one on the horizon. I suspect they will get the iPhone 5 (or whatever it's called) also.

Just seen this on Twitter. I for one am delighted. The only network I can use is Meteor as 90% of my friends and family use it. I don't think there gonna wait for the new iPhone. The one they have advertised is the iPhone 4. Safe to say I'll be switching to Meteor billpay as soon as the next version of the iPhone is out... If they stock that one quick enough that is. Hopefully they will get the new one same time as everybody else.

Its surely another clue as well that the iphone 5 definitely wont be coming until the Autumn.

E mobile will also have the iphone 4 available.

Not necessarily when Three start selling the iPhone 4 this year they got that and the 3GS in. So Meteor could get the iPhone 4 and the 4S/5 whatever it will be. But I do think that Apple will be holding the release of the new model till August/September like most are saying.

I'm probably the only one that sees this as bad news.

Gives them the oppurtunity to charge for data tethering.

Been happily tethering for free for two years on meteor and don't want to be charge for it now.

Didn't think of that... but on the plus side they'll finally be a supported carrier. And most people in Ireland wont really have to worry about carrier unlocks unless there switching sims for travel etc. Meteor usually are a good company when it comes to pricing and charges. I doubt they'll charge for tethering.

The positives of them being a supported carrier far outweigh the negatives in my books.

Why would they charge for tethering with the introduction of the Iphone 4?

Official carriers can push profiles over the air easily. This means they can with a simple flick of a switch can blok you from entering in your own APN for tethering and thus charging you for it. For 10 seconds work they can charging people to tether. Vodafone/o2 do it and many other carriers around the world do as well.

Not saying they will charge just that them becoming a supported carrier it makes it easier to.

3 don't charge or it and give unlimited data so I'd say meteor would have to do something similar to stay competitive. So hopefully you'll be alright.

what will the story be for existing billpay customers? went on to 40 eur for 400 mins 400 txts and 2gb data recently on a monthly rollover so not tied.

They have one for Android so I suspect they will make one for iOS once they actually have it.

Not really. Vodafone launched the 3GS just before iPhone 4 came out.

+1 for consume very good app however lately in the last two weeks or so it goes through patches of failures when tryna check my balance. I've my mobile broadband run through it too so it's a very handy little app. And it's FREE.

I dont think that meteor will charge for tethering. They have always been great value and if they have the iphone and offer much better value than the others they will make a lot of sales.

plugged my iphone into my imac just there and there's a carrier profile update.

needless to say i decline that until i know what's going on. anyone else download this and let me know if everything is kosher afterwards?

can you do me a huge favour if you're on a mac?

    cd ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone\ Carrier\ Support

and upload the carrier profile that's there for meteor, wouldn't mind having a poke at it before i accept it.

there are already reports of meteor messing about http://forums.meteor.ie/index.php?showtopic=1953

cellular data menu has now vanished. Hada can you confirm this though?

    On Windows unfortunately Creamy.

I can confirm that the Data Settings option tab isn't there anymore BUT Personal Hotspot is.

Also the voice mail feature didn't seem to work ( hadn't JakMeehan's Meteor bundle installed) But installed it there and it does work now....so basically, as far as I can tell, the removal of the data settings is the only difference so far - what this means in practice I'm not really sure?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

Hmm not to sure where iTunes is located on windows.

could you do a windows search for this:

    *.ipcc

That *should* find any carrier profiles on your machine.

Not a fan of them hiding the menu being honest, will know more of what's changed if I can get my hands on the .ipcc file. Will of course let you all know what I find.

same here, ive lost my access to edit my data settings, but in theory i shouldnt need to edit my details, right?

voicemail always worked for though as i used the shortcut *5005*86*171# to set the button up. (not jailbroken btw)

ive tried to locate this file for you also, but windows doesnt pick it up, im using windows 7.

I just got my update over the air. Pressed accept. Nothing changed other than Network Settings Menu vanished.

I was half asleep when i saw the message on screen and pressed accept instead of decline....

I now have personal hotspot, but my APN settings menu has gone?

But as was already said, i shouldn't NEED to change that!

I really hope metoer don't jack up the prices....i'll cry!

has anyone heard when the phone will be available to buy from meteor. It's not like it hasn't been released yet on other networks.

makes no difference that it has been released on other networks. its the same build up to release that was experienced with Vodafone and 3 after O2 got it first.

i would imagine within a month or so as my mate (Eircom/Meteor Employee) has already been offered one on a staff tarrif.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,339 ✭✭✭brophs

I'll be interested to see how expensive it is and also how expensive the monthly tariffs are, as I'd assume they'd be looking to undercut Three as the cheapest iPhone network, but Apple's insistence on iPhone specific price plans might make that more difficult.

Meteor rang me yesterday cold call style tryna get me to sign up for a billpay package. While I had the rep on the phone I asked him what date they'd be coming and he said "in the coming weeks". I have an iPhone 4 now but I was just curious. It'll be great to finally have Meteor selling the iPhone.

    Choose
    Smart €30 €25 18 months 200 mins 200 texts 1 GB €279.99
    Smart €35 €30 12 months 200 mins 200 texts 1 GB €279.99
    Smart €50 €40 18 months 400 mins 400 texts 2 GB €229.99
Smart Unlimited €75 18 months Unlimited Unlimited 5 GB €179.99

There prices are fantastic to be honest....

75 a month for unlimited calls and texts and 5gb of data!

That'll be the package for me, aslong as they don't charge extra for tethering!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

The above prices are available online for the Samsung Galaxy II

I'd assume the iphone prices won't be much different.

For the middle of the road customer Three is a better deal, IMHO. You get 350 flexi-units (1 unit per minute, half a unit per text) which would allow you 200 minutes, 300 texts, all you can eat data, 3333 minutes to other Three customers and also a free add-on (I chose unlimited landline minutes).

Obviously that's purely in terms of cost but in my eight or so months with Three it's been pretty much flawless, whereas where I live (just outside Carlow town) the Meteor reception wasn't the best, though that may have changed since I swapped over.

i must say its about time meteor has accepted the iphone, for pay as you go there fantastic prices, there signal for data is great.

id say they'll have it before the 28th and could well be a tuesday launch as Apple like that to do that.

there carrier settings have done nothing and i'd say they'll announce iphone 5 in september keynote when there showing off the new ipods and it'll be "And finally....." "iPhone 4G/5" announcement

plus you can buy and iphone off Apple's website without a contract so its factory unlocked which is perfect especially if you want to use it in USA, european or asian sim cards

You are correct about a Tuesday launch, and according to a manager of a meteor store I was speaking with this afternoon, its going to be launched this coming Tuesdays, and also, their new iphone specific packages will indeed be as competitive or better than those offered by three

What's wrong with the packages they already have? Sounds like they're going to make you pay more to have an iPhone than for any other phone they offer, including the brand new SGS2. Which will be a load of sh*te to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭nowayout1

sweet, it'll be good to see what the prices are and if there just selling the iphone 4 or 8gb 3gs as well.

so there'd be 3 possible tuesdays it'd come on if it is to launch this month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭Marco85

was in meteor today in henry street and asked about i phone, the chap said it will be out in the next 3 weeks and that the cheapest plan you will get is 50 euro a month and minimum 2 year contract!!!

Christ they're awful options. 24 month month minimum contract - 5gb minimum data usage...

I'd be a fool not to stick with my unlocked 3gs with €30/pm sim.
