As always steer clear of all Aldi and Lidl rubbish....they are badly made dishes and very few reputable installers will even touch them any more.

You will not be able to use it for Saorview, probably wont be able to use it for saorsat either.

Better value to get a Freesat HD. That's generic. Total pain in neck for Freesat.
    No MHEG5 / BBC Interactive.

    Dish too small.

    LNB no good for Saorsat.
    Saorview uses aerial.

    Avoid.

Is this not a Freesat satellite dish + receiver?

Is this worth buying for HD Freesat reception and would I be able to receive Saorview or SaorSat with this equipment.

Its about time that someone told aldi to stop stocking these 45cm dishes. They dont work here, they are too small. They are made for the german market.

The box below will do both Saorview and HD British Channels.

Bargain Alert: New Ferguson HD DTT/Sat Combo Box - €63 before postage

A dish will cost you €35. It also takes an aerial. You can mix the channel in one channel list.

44cm / 45cm is Grand for SE England too. Zone1 Sky Dish.
Maybe just OK for Waterford. Useless elsewhere when it rains.

Agreed - but this might be useful for someone who happens to have a Sky dish already installed, and who is happier dealing with a "bricks n mortar" store. Apart from the dish size it's a reasonably good spec, understands Freesat and presumably automatically upgrades/retunes, and has USB recording. It's a LOT better than the €69 FTA SD boxes that were on sale there up to recently (and still are elsewhere)

While I agree that they should supply bigger dishes for Ireland, surely if the small dishes don't work they will end up being returned to the shop.

The fact they keep selling them suggests that some people are happy enough with the dish size or esle are not bothered to bring them back if they are dissatisifed.

I think anyone with any sense is either using this for occasional camping holidays in northern France or southern England, or thinks it's cheap enough simply to discard the dish and use a larger one.

I see they have another offer for fixing the dish to the wall

no it does not understand 'Freesat' & does not automatically upgrade or retune,
Tevion do not make Freesat boxes.
Its just another generic HD free to air satellite receiver with a crap dish, no HDMI cable etc,

    Oh! :o
I just assumed from the specific mention of Freesat in the ALDI description, and being HD, that it was more than just another FTA generic box.

You are right - there's absolutely no reason for anyone to buy this unit.

yes the use of the providers name 'Freesat' is misleading,

the receiver is capable of displaying Sky news but that does not make it a 'sky box',

and with that pathetic dish you would be lucky to see anything, never mind HD channels
