So we all try and do our best and eat sensibly, but what's your weakness, when you say to hell with it I'm treating myself?
I'm always drawn towards, tortilla crisps and salsa or humous and breadsticks and can make a large bar of cadbury's fruit and nut disappear quicker than you can say '4 slices of buttered toast = a 5 mile run'.

But just on this, how do people aviod cravings? Mine is wine gums / fizzy cola bottles, coke, cadbury chocolate bar...

Do people just not buy them? If you dont have them, you won;t eat them? Going to the shop for me, it is very hard avoid all the sweet stuff in front of you.......

Also, when visiting friends, plate of biscuits / cake may be left in front of it.... You don't want to be rude in not eating something...

At the end of the day it is all rubbish and bad for you...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

    • A dollop (big enough so you don''t have to spread it!) of nutella between 2 digestives
    • Peanut butter and jam in a pitta
    • Peanut butter on its own
    • A bowl of Alpen - I find it hard to stop at one bowl too
    • Hot Chocolate (cadburys, I go for a 4th heaped spoon :o)
    • Bourneville
    • Choc Hob nobs
    • Scones with butter and jam

The only way for me to stop is to not have them

    Sunday evening red wine choclate:(

I work weekends so sunday is my weekend normally and i love glass of red wine with a bar of good choc............but the wine leads to worse muchies for cheese sambo with granary bread and a slice of edam:P

Oh and i forgot to add homemade salsa which in itself is ubber healthy but add the big bag of doritos and it all falls apart !

and finally milk............pints and pints of ice cold tullamore dairy full fat milk............my wife has now banned it !

    Did i mention i'm 16 stone............i think we've worked out why.

That's the hard bit alright - go shopping after you've eaten - but a treat in moderation is fine - we only live once and we're not olympic athletes!

A bottle of red wine in the evening of LSR day, and a packet of M&S cheese and onion crisps. A family packet. I might let the family have one or two...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,340 ✭✭✭TFBubendorfer

    Chocolate.

Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, anything, just as long as it doesn't have anything else in it, like nuts or raisins (yuck!).

From time to time I go mad on the stuff. Especially, as I found put last week, if I'm off running. I put on 5 pounds in 5 days , and I'm definitely blaming the chocolate.

Another chocoholic here. I can (mostly) control myself though - 2 squares of Lindt 90% with my lunchtime coffee tends to deal with the cravings. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,075 ✭✭✭BTH

    Peanut butter and a teaspoon.
    Peanut butter on rice cakes.
Ice-cream (always something in tesco on half price!!)
    Do nature-valley bars count?
    Peanut and Jam sandwiches
    Cheese-Cake
    Carrot Cake
    Lemon Cake
maybe i should just say cake.

    Peanut butter and a teaspoon.

Peanut butter in my porridge. :pac:

I have switched on to 90% dark stuff too.. but as with most new things, now I'm addicted. What was 2 squares is now 4-6 :(

chicken & stuffing sandwich and chinese at the weekend

My weakness is good beer. Not your crappy mass-produced Heineken/Carlsberg/Guinness/Budwater etc., but good hoppy beer.
For the next while, I'm limiting myself to having a good bottle of beer the evening after a hard training session (and of course weekends).

    Tonight's tasty treat:

I agree Krusty about the beer.

I know its a sign of aging that I only have one bottle of beer, but it cost's as much as a six pack of fizzy muck used to cost me when I was young and knew no better.

My big weakness is crisps. Cant stop myself eating them if they are put in front of me.

In the summer it's ice cream, especially after the jog home from work when I have a good thirst worked up!

Was running home the other day and an ice cream van pulled up and I said feck it and got a 99 and walked the rest of the way home enjoying it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 830 ✭✭✭ocnoc

I train hard, so I give my body whatever it wants.

If it wants more coffee, I supply it with more coffee.
If I feel like an entire pizza, I polish one off.

I enjoy training and I enjoy my food (and coffee).

Same. Except it's mostly me putting them in front of me and whatever is front of me I will eat (all). I can take or leave chocolate.
Now that picture has me wanting beer :o I haven't had a beer for months.....:(

Crisps, tea, coffee (caffeine in general), biscuits. Every day. Well, a life needs balance doesn't it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 400

Chocolate (Galaxy Cookie is my ultimate weakness!!)...nutella(on toast, biscuits, brown bread anything!!)...brownies(with toffee popcorn and ice cream)...nom nom...and I'm injured so I convince myself that it's not so bad for me :P

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,421 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Cadburys giant buttons. Family size bag, but I don't share with my family. :) And cheese and onion hunky dory crisps. Sometimes at the same time. I also crave pickled gherkins but at least theyre low cal. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

Pretty much all food and choc for me. Love Chinese food and could eat it 3 times a day. Love choc with a good hot strong cup of tea. Have cut out most of the junk though now. I find it easier to avoid junk if it's not in the apartment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭couerdelion

Pretty much everything! Sausage Rolls, Cornish Pasties, Pork Pies, Blue Cheese, Fish and Chips,Pizza, Steak and Kidney Pies, Full Irish... Chocolate bars, desserts... Proper Beer (bitter), Guinness, Scotch.

Resisting well so far, although I am drinking a nice 15yr old scotch at the moment:D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,369 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

You know those little thin dairy milk bars that melt in your mouth, the '95 cal' ones. Yeah, I love them - one with lunch every day though in the last couple of weeks it probably been two, what's another 95 cals. :D

Mars refuel drinks, but I only have them if I don't have my post training protein smoothie. :pac:

I probably have chocolate of some description every day so chocolate or bread is probably my biggest weakness. Not that I try to stop either.

Ridic amount of orange juice too, which is not good for you. Sometimes a small glass before work, small carton at 9am, small bottle of the good stuff at lunch, then either orange juice or a smoothie laden with oj after training. Probably a good 750 mls - 1 litre most days. Gotta love that vitamin c and tooth rotting citric acid. :o

I have a serious craving for a Twirl and a can of coke!

The only problem being 1 Twirl is too small for me now, so its usually 2 of 'em or a Twirl and a Snickers.

Tayto cheese & onion crisps. And KP salted peanuts. Together :o

Oh, and a really hot curry from the Indian. With garlic naan. I don't have one that often, but when I do, I really enjoy it.

Doritos Chilli with M&S guacamole or any form chocolate.

Any good tips for healthy (tasty) snacks? I tend to be constantly hungry when hitting peak milage during a marathon training schedule and crisps and chocolate are just to easy to fall back on sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,703 ✭✭✭BrokenMan

Dorritos and dips, crisps in general, biscuits, beer, red wine.

Of course all in moderation and only on a day with a 'Y' at the end.

Not a huge cake or chocolate eater. I try to keep my main meals mostly health and allow myself a snack as a treat in the evening.

I was planning my long run in the morining, but I am shattered after the week, have the place to myself and would love a pig out tonight in front of the TV.

So I might push the long run out to sat eve and have:

red wine, 3 glasses I'd say
a nice brie on some crackers

or chilli doritos and cool salsa

Or may be uber bad and leave the long one till sunday. Hmmmm......:P

Pizza, homemade chilli/tikka/paprika wedges and curry sauce mmmmmm

Coffee is my thing too, i have been having too many latés lately! Must pull back. I only get my coffee from two places, Lillyput and 3FE though. Cant stand the chain cafés.

That and good ales/beers/stouts. Fullers ESB and Porterhouse's Oyster Stout being my fav

Meridian do a 1kg tub of the best crunchy peanut butter. Love it in porridge, or almond, hazelnut, brazilnut or cashew nut butter. Any nut butter really. Some dates, figs or dried apricots or a really mushy banana mashed in.

We also share a love of lindt, although unlike you i can't stop myself at 2 squares.

Was in Dublin yesterday and popped into the expensive fallon and byrne and picked up loads of dark choc that ya cannot get here in Limerick.

I sometimes crave really freshly soda bread with a banana mashed on,. followed by a layer of peanut butter, then a layer of cottage cheese followed by a layer of applesauce.

    Yeah, I'm a food eccentric.

Oh and can't forget the COFFEE, or even better, chocolate covered espresso beans - 2 birds, 1 stone !
