    Hi guys

I probably sound like a complete idiot asking this question but there's so much information on the internet I feel like my head is going to explode:eek:

I want to lose a fair bit of weight and keep it off but also I want to become more healthy and learn how to eat properly. Could anybody give me a basic idea of how many carbs, proteins etc I should be eating or have any links?

I've tried ww and a couple of similar things but I just pile back on the weight and more after a few weeks. I want to actually know whats good for me.

Cheers in advance for any help:)

Link to Lyle McDonald's site as requested.

This guy would be generally well respected in the area of diet and nutrition and his site contains some good, useful information.

Eat real food. Eat only when you are hungry, and eat sitting down at a table, using a knife and fork, and with the television and computer off.

I know, this sounds silly, but you'd be amazed at the amount of crap it cuts out, and how much more you'll be aware of what you eat, rather than eating without noticing.

Base your diet on fresh whole foods: eggs, fish, meat, chicken, lots and lots of green veg, some dairy including butter, olive oil, nuts, whole fruit, a small amount of whole grains. Did I mention lots of vegetables? No sugar, white carbs, processed food, ready meals, boxed breakfast cereals.

If you eat like that, you'll find you get a reasonable about of protein, fat and complex carbs without having to worry about it. Eat when you are hungry, stop eating when you are not hungry.

Thanks both of you for your replies

Yes Eileen you are right about eating at a table with the telly off I actually sit on the couch eating my dinner:eek::o

What do you think of potatoes pasta and rice? Should I go for brown pasta and rice? Oh and is frozen veg okay sometimes? I have a hyper toddler so dont always have time to prepare everything from scratch

I'd take potatoes over pasta, and brown rice over white, but watch the portion size. Most people eat two or three portions thinking they are eating only one. I'm not a fan of pasta, I think most people eat too much wheat, and pasta is just another form of white bread.

Frozen veg is fine, sometimes better than fresh.
