I tried this before a long time ago, but I can't remember.. isn't there some glitch where you can see other people quoting them or something? You get the *** posted without seeing the actual post too, if I remember correctly? =/

Yup, all you see is their name and you can click to view their post if you feel so inclined, but if someone quotes them then you have to put up with their insane desperate ramblings. It's a great feature, in fairness it's only sad desperado nutjobs that you'd really block anyhue.

    Pointless exercise.

I had a guy on ignore and then one day I seen them quoted and in the quote it showed that they had made the same points as I had, only in a better, more articulated way and an hour before I did, so I looked like I was just copying what they had said, and made it slightly incomprehensible. A fool I looked, a charlatan. Learn from my mistakes and just read their posts, you never know, they might say something you like someday and if they don't, at least you'll feel somewhat better about yourself, knowing that there are people in the world not as nice, funny, sound, genuine, intelligent and shexy as you. Kinda like how you feel when you watch an episode of Jeremy Kyle.

I would not bother with the ignore list, it's fun to see some people getting worked up.

Thought as much. Theres only one person I could think of ignoring, and ideally they wouldn't be able to see anything I've said or vice-versa. While it is a pain in the hole, I can see how it would be hard to make it work. If several people quote the person you are ignoring, they're all talking to themselves from what you could see.

    Shizballs.

Never put anybody on ignore before for reasons mentioned in previous posts , they will pop up in quotes anyway and threads might become confusing if you are loosing track of what's being said , although that's not to say I haven't wanted to , if only sometimes because of their troll like ways or ignorance. To be honest it's just as easy to not acknowledge them unless they are nut jobs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭Kasabian

I wouldn't put anyone on "ignore", you never know when they might actually say something meaningful. Anyway people change sometimes for the better.

There should be a league table to see who has been put on the Ignored List more than anybody else.
Who would you guess to be top of that pile of shít?

Prefer the ignore function in the brain.

There are a few posters I tend to just skim over their posts, they mostly just post "pc gone mad, pink liberals" etc, ad nausea.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

Had somebody on once - not because I hated them but because their posts made me cringe but it seems pointless to block them. There isn't really anybody I dislike on boards enough to do that for. Seems like more of a thing you to do in order to tell others that you've done it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34,418 ✭✭✭✭hondasam

can you put mods on ignore ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭--LOS--

The only point of the ignore list is so you cant get PMs, VMs from people you dont want to, pointless ignore listing them to ignore their posts as you can still see that they have posted.

There is a Firefox add on that can do that I think but I don't think it works on FF 4.0.

The only way the ignore function would work 100% is when you don't see that persons user name 'at all ' so they cease to exist in your boards life .

On the other side of the coin ,I'm pretty sure many out there wont give a flying fcuk that some nanny has thrown his or her dummy out of a pram to put somebody on ignore .

Edit- not referring to the OP herself but the issue of using the ignore function itself .

Hold your horses , I wasn't referring to the OP . I was referring to the way some people use the function more to tell somebody they are using it like some sort of statement , which Stovelid revered to in his post . I don't need you to allude that I was picking on some new poster or speaking about the OP in the negative, I wasn't and have being on here long enough to to know about nuisance posters bothering others .

However if it came across like that then my bad for not using correct wording and a simple misunderstanding on yours .
