Lemon Juice.....

I'm reading good things about taking lemon juice in the mornings before breakfast to help speed digestion and metabolism, which in turn helps to burn more fat. Does anyone do this and if so how is it working out for you? I find it a bit hard to drink in water so I've just started taking a half a lemon squeezed into a glass of orange juice. Will drinking it this way still give the desired benefit?

    Thanks

Probably not. Apart from anything else, you're adding the calories from the orange juice.

I'm not convinced that lemon juice has any special properties to burn fat etc, but one thing it does do is to kill your taste for sweet stuff, so if you start the day with lemon juice, you are less likely to pig out on biscuits mid morning.

I thought the warm water and lemon in the morning was to get the digestive system going?

I don't think the digestive system needs anything to get it going. The more I learn the more it becomes clear to me that all these little things that you hear are just myths.

What he said. The digestive system is perfectly able to get itself going without adding weird things to it, and there are very few foods or supplements which have any significant effect on a normal metabolism. Caffeine is about the only one which spring to mind, and even then, the effect is very small.

I thought any food/calories in the morning would get your digestion system awake and going?

I think it started as one of those cosmo/glamour magazine diets. Getting some calories into you first thing while still keeping those calories ridiculously low.

Though I have heard the odd beautician say it can help with bloating and make the skin look clearer... But I imagine that's simply because you're drinking extra water?

Eating something for breakfast will have the same effect.

There could be something to this actually. Just in terms of increasing the acidity levels in the stomach.

Same goes for ACV or red wine vinegar.

I've taken to drinking lemon juice in hot water every morning for its cleansing properties. I'm afraid though, that I may be destroying the vitamin c by adding water that's too hot.

Does anyone know anything about this? Should I be drinking it cold? I've been having it instead of tea or coffee and find a warm drink great for waking up in the morning.

    Cheers.

I wouldn't worry about it. It is heat sensitive but you won't be losing a huge amount, a sqeeze of lemon juice also isn't going to have an enormous amount to begin with

If you find it good for waking up, go with it

Thank you, I have the juice of half a lemon with hot water and it's such a nice way to get into the day :)
