Modern Warefare 2, despite the plethora of flaws it'll always have a special spot.

Played the orginal but sure don't remember any of it. Played a bit of CoD2 public back in the day, nothing major, always played second fiddle to other games.

My xbox was COD3 bundled edition. . .terrible terrible game, put me off COD altogether (in the end it has just put me off treyarch). It took 6 months of listening to people blather about COD4:MW before I said I'd give it a lash, so glad I did, still the best of the lot!

My initial response to the title question was going to be sega bass fishing on the dreamcast

Mine was Call of Duty: Finest Hour on the Gamecube. Not quite the first CoD, but a hell of a game. The first few levels were Enemy at the Gates in a video game.
    Didn't buy another until W@W.

CoD 2 on the pc.played everyone since.Only switched to console gaming when my graffixs card crapped itself. But have got a new one so will be playing on pc.Mind you my son will buy any more games for the PS3

First was Finest Hour back in 2004, fired it up on the PS3 about 6 months ago and the online servers were still up and active:pac:

First online cod was COD3, loved playing it for the first month or two after launch when there were only a few people playing it on PS3 and you would see the same people doing the rounds and get to know them.

All lost now with anonymous 12 year olds mouthing down their mic acting tough.

COD4 for me, but didn't have online capability at the time. First online version was MW2 which I only got last October.

Likewise, back when the game needed skill.
Still plenty of servers running, the rifle only ones were especially epic.

I thought I had only a few but after some research that was a severe underestimate.

    • Call of duty:finest hour. Vaguely remember this. Never played it or big red one online.
    • Call of duty:big red one. I remember even less of this one.
    • Call of duty:2. lots of explosions and limitless enemies that you had to grind past. I think this or 3 was the one you started as a russian without a gun. Multiplayer was pretty poor, think it was 8 or 12 players max.
    • Call of duty:3. Forgetable campaign but really good multiplayer. The class based system was great fun and if you've never jumped over Eder dam in a sidecar chased by a gun car whilst trying to cap the flag I feel sorry for you.
    • Call of duty:4. I still vividly remember my highest killstreak of 22 with the g3. Closest the series came to perfection. Some of the best multiplayer levels were in here.
    • Modern Warfare 2. It's got it's flaws but still was and is a unique game that draws people back only for hackers to ruin all those good memories.
    • Black Ops: Middle of the road for the series. Some good, some bad but ultimately never going to develope any of the nostalgia of IW's work.
At least if I ever come across bitter about COD then I have perfect reasons to be critical.

I hope Magill is better at doing 30 page reports than explaining what he means in a single post.

Being the best in the world at a certain time and place is still best in the world.

Disparaging a game's players is a pointless operation. Arguing there is less or more skill in games/sports/etc. nowadays versus yesterday is an exercise in futility.

Call of Duty 4 was my first, and I still regard it as the best in the series, only just ahead of World at War.

I would but i cant be arsed :D I Shouldn't even be on boards ! I've to get this 30 page report finished for today !! I will say tho, that back in CoD 1 and even early cod 2, the skill level would be comparable to a drunken christmas tennis ralley on wii sport.

It was suppose to be a direct response to his post "Likewise, back when the game needed skill.". Implying that games like CoD4 and Blackops require no skill... however from my point of view (Without the rose tinted glasses that people recall older games with) i remember how low the skill levels were in the old school days of CoD 1 + 2, therefore it required a lot less skill to be considered "GOOD" at the game back then that it does in todays games (CoD4 for PC and Black ops for Console).

Sorry for not making it clear what i was going on about :)

Anyway, im sorry for going offtopic (Again).

    You missed the point completely.

Player skill at a particular game is the crux of the matter.

If you were to contribute something more substantial rather than one line ambiguous posts that would at least bring a conclusion to going off topic rather than have it dragged out.

Played CoD on the PC, along with CoD2.

Bought CoD with the Xbox360. Played an awful lot of CoD: Modern Warfare on the LAN at college on the PC and on Xbox live. Absolutely loved that game.
