    Hello all

So I have IBS and have been taking psyllium husk tablets for about a year now - they are fantastic and do their job very well.

Only thing is we've moved abroad and I can't find them anywhere. Would a soluable fibre supplement be better? Something like Metamucil? http://www.metamucil.com/

That would do it, but you'd get a lot of flavouring and additives you may not want. It's easy enough to buy psyllium on-line. www.myprotein.com/ie/products/whole-psyllium-husks

Thanks Eileen. Are there any negative effects from taking them long term? I'd love to be able to be au naturel but I feel so much better when taking psyllium, and I only take 2 tabs a day..

I saw a tv doctor recently saying it was a myth that you can't take fiber supplements long term. As long as you are not abusing them (eating just fiber to try to avoid eating food to diet), then I don't see a problem.

You could always alternate the odd day eating beetroot or rhubarb if you are worried.

Sorry to bump this but I have another question! I found psyllium husks, which is great, but the recommended dosage is 5 tablets, 3 times a day! Up to now I'd be taking only 2 tablets a day which I found fine.

Is 15 tablets a day really necessary?

Not if you don't need them. If two tablets does it for you, that's all you need. In this case, more is not better.
