Volcano Ash Cloud 'Will Cover Ireland and Scotland'
Ash from the erupting Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland will cover Scotland and Ireland by early Tuesday morning, the Met Office has predicted. Airlines and travellers were looking nervously at the progress of cloud as it headed towards Europe. The Grimsvotn volcano began erupting on Saturday and forced Iceland to close its airports on Sunday.
The country's aviation authority said it hoped to reopen the main airport near the capital Reykjavik later today or tonight.
The only other country to be affected so far is Greenland, with air traffic officials confirming airspace was partly closed over the Arctic island.
Air Greenland said its Monday flight between the island's main airport and Copenhagen had been cancelled because of the ash.
[European airlines have been warned to prepare for possible disruption to their own flight schedules by the end of the week

    Full Story Here.

Trust Sky the fcuking shower of cúnts that they are.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0523/breaking28.html
Irish aviation experts have expressed confidence that the latest volcanic eruption in Iceland will have little or no impact on air travel here over the next 24 hours.

The Grimsvotn volcano, which lies under the Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland, began erupting on Saturday evening and forced the country to close its international airspace.

However, a spokeswoman for the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) said it was not anticipating any problems here over the next 24 to 48 hours as wind patterns are significantly different to last year when the Eyjafjallajökull volcano led to European airspace closing for six days.

While the eruption is considerably stronger than at Eyjafjallajökull, current wind directions have seen the ash falling mainly around Iceland..

The IAA spokesman said it would be monitoring the situation “very closely” this week.

Ryanair’s chief executive Michael O'Leary has expressed confidence that the latest ash cloud will be less problematic than Eyjafjallajökull. "I think the regulators are a bit more sensible than they were last year," Mr O'Leary said. "I hope there will be no airspace closures - there shouldn't be, certainly not over any countries where we are flying."

UK Met Office charts published this morning show that the ash from the volcano will stretch south from Iceland as far as the western isles of Scotland by midnight and Europe's air traffic control organisation said that if the emissions continue at their current levels then it might reach west French airspace and north Spain on Thursday.

Iceland's aviation authority said today it hoped to reopen the airport later today or tonight.

So far Iceland, particularly the towns and villages to the south and east of the Grimsvotn volcano, has suffered most as a thick cloud of ash descended on the area, smothering cars and buildings.

Iceland's meteorological office said the plume from Grimsvotn, which last exploded in 2004, had fallen in height from a peak of about 25km in the hours after the eruption and was now holding steady.

Supposed to be flying out to Tenerife for a week from Derry tomorrow at 11.00am, seems that will be off now as the ash cloud should cover Ireland by then. ahh well no escape from the rainy conditions for a while!
I wonder will I get any refund?

The whole airline industry and airport security are a shower of scumbags.

I therefore welcome our new ash-based overlord

I have it from reliable sources* that there is no ash cloud.

It's actually people being saved, Rapture style. Seems only Iceland were deemed worthy of being saved.

Kinda makes you think, doesn't it.

*source may not be reliable, or even real.

due to hit the uk tomorrow around 12pm they reckon.

so no more flights for the next while.
even president obama had to leave tonight instead of the planned flight to the uk tomorrow.

    thoughts?

    ITV News:

Iceland volcano worst in over 50 years.
100 times more powerful than last years.

Seems the cloud is going to effect scotland and some parts of england. Ireland seems to be uneffected. But hey, never say never. Predictions it would seem.

    Accordingly so.
But with large amounts blowing over an area it will cancel flights. They say the next few days will tell all.

I think iceland should do something about their really thin crust maybe put them under water or something :pac:

maybe some kind of ducting in order or something.
maybe some king of steam powered pump that would pump sea water into the volcano.

at the very least it might lower the sea level
