That Player and the Super Injunction

The injunction carries no weight in Ireland, or anywhere outside Britain. So why can't we name him? He has been mentioned by name in numerous newspapers, sports websites, forums etc. Why the constraint on boards.ie?

Does that not answer your question?
Seriously, I reckon the owners of the site would prefer not to take the chance - especially if the information is that easily available.

The injunction covers any material that is accessible in the UK.

The injunctions will be all scrapped soon.

It's making the British government too unpopular with powerful sections of the media.

But what is 'the chance' they would be taking? I would be breaking no law here if I named him. If, and its a huge if, he took a similar action in the Irish courts as he did in Britain, or wherever the site is hosted, then they can remove any reference.

Btw, The Sun have apparently gone to the high court this afternoon in an attempt to lift the injunction, anything to do it before the CL final...

I think he'll admit it after the final.

Even if the chance is very small, why take the chance at all if there is a risk of legal action being taken? It's not necessarily the injunction that is the issue here, but more to do with the fact that you are publishing what is in essence a rumour that is not fact yet.

If it was your livelyhood/job/company on the line you'd err on the side of caution as well. It's not like every man and his dog doesn't know at this stage, but that's not really the point is it? There is a thread in feedback at the moment that Daragh has posted some thoughts in about this issue that you may be interested in.

I don't think so, why would he want his name and his families' names all over the newspapers? He'l do everything he can to keep the injunction, how long the injunction lasts is the question.

Unfortunately it may well effect boards.ie. I'm just waiting to hear back from one of the Comm Managers who was in touch with their lawyers regarding whether or not we're allowed to have threads on this.

Will let you guys know as soon as I do.

I'm not entirely sure. Nothing really. But if the off off off off off off chance that it came to light then boards could be held liable.

Ok the lads just got the all clear from the solicitors that's it's cool to talk about it.

Within reason. No jumping to ridiculous conclusions/name calling/making things up etc.

Any of the above will be dealt with harshly as it's still a reasonably delicate subject.

For the sake of clarity, and for future reference, it is to be noted that foreign judgements can garner recognition in this jurisdiction.

    This will not end well.

Anyway, my two cents, it doesnt take away from his ability and his acheivements in the game and how professional he has been throughout his football career.

Hope it doesn't affect him on Saturday. Don't give a bollix about the rest of it bar sympathy with his wife/kids.

The way I see it is that there's no point in being smug about it because chances are it could be a player from your team that gets embroiled in this kind of stuff next week.

All you can do is show respect and hope people have the class to return the favour when it's needed.

Isnt it the case that there are shed loads of super injunctions in place in Britain at the minute, many concerning footballers... This is a fun precedent that has been set.

Anyone have any statistics of injunctions in Britain at the minute I think it was reported some time last week

Most famous one is the Gerard one I think

He was very very badly advised on all of this. It's now getting multiples of the publicity it would've got if her story appeared originally.

Most people don't give a toss about what he did or didn't do in his private life, and those that do generally get bored after a couple of weeks. However, the circus that now surrounds it is giving entertainment to millions.

    Rooney has smarter advisers.

What stuns me about this is that so many people think English courts have any juristiction in Ireland.

To correct earlier in the thread, Scotland has a different legal system to the rest of the UK therefore the injunction had no legal sway in Scotland. The only reason the papers in Scotland did not name him is they sell those papers in England.

The Sunday Herald (Glasgow based) printed his picture and named him on sunday after they decided not to distribute the paper to England (they don't sell much down there anyway).

Giggs has been shown up here and he needs to take this on the chin. He should get rid of his advisors pronto.

No wonder Ryan Giggs is still going at he's age, he's only as young as the women he sleeps with. (28) :pac:

I doubt it is multiples of what it would have been. Rooney's had as much publicity. All this has done is save his wife and kid from being in the newspapers every day. Big name players will get massive publicity with stories like this.

Its great to see United fans now saying that it dosn't matter :D When it was Terry and Gerrard it was the most disgusting thing that could possibly happen in the world ever. But now its just "It means nothing" :D

I think every team has fans that react like that. Same way every team has players that cheat (generalisation but probably true). Not all United fans said that about Terry and Lampard. Not all United fans are reacting in the same way. Sure there'll be people having banter about it, but they realise that soon it'll be some other "love rat" footballer.

I think it is. It's on the front of the broadsheets today because of the whole injunction/Twitter/legal angles. No way would a footballer having an affair have made the front of the broadsheets.

He's scored a spectacular own goal here, thanks to his advisors.

He is playing in the Gary Neville testimonial tonight. Berba, Scholes and VDS also missed training today. No big deal (but the media would like to portray it as such).

    Next up...
Giggs misses training. How will it affect the CL final preparations etc blah blah blah :)
