Any bloke's gonna outgrow those weights in no time. You could get some decent upper-body development with chin ups and a variety of pushups.

I have no experience with kettlebells, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. They're more for conditioning than packing on muscle, but a beginner's going to get good initial results out of any form of resistance training.

If I were to go for a cheap home-gym option, I'd probably get a kettlebell, a pull-up bar and an ab wheel.

Like pace said, that's not a lot of weight. The good news is you can buy another 20kg (4*5kg) for about 40 euro.
They are the same as the ones I use now, bought 2 pairs of the handles and I think I have 60Kg in plates for them. I just use them for flys and laterals now, not enough weight for anything else, you'd just about fit 30kg on each.
The spin lock is a pain, it comes loose a lot but they do the job.
If I'd had the cash at the time I'd have went for variable weight dumbbells, but they aren't cheap, more like an investment.
Another alternative would be resistance bands, pretty cheap and you'll get more weight/resistance/flexibility for your cash.

I'd sell my grannie for these puppies:

Not to be too smart - my father once had a set of these and imo the best workout was spinning the collars on and off.:)

They are ok but maybe go for a set of bands instead.

With regard to chin-up bars.I saw this is in Argos http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/9282726/Trail/searchtext%3ECHIN+UP+BAR.htm

I'm sure it's the same as the ones I've seen on youtube and irishlifting.com. However it is low on detail in the description. Is it the type of bar that just sits on the door frame through leverage without screws etc? Does anyone have one?
