certain things happen on a football field, outside the rules but which the participant is acknowledging he may be subjected to as part of the game - a late tackle, an inaccurate shoulder, etc.

What you're describing is assault. And a matter for the civil authorities as well as the sporting authorities.

Well said - hopefully both Kelly and O'Se will do time for their thuggery today.

will this be on The Sunday Game later? Sounds disgraceful.

There's no place for this type of behaviour in the game. He should be suspended for at least 12 months minimum.

Unfortunately Greame has a poor disciplinary record for both club and county.

mabe we should wait to see links,to alledgedincident, or some sort of evidence before calling for him to be locked up and key thrown away.

If you are referring to Tomas O'Se being sent off it was far from thuggery rather a case of a man eventually snapping after being tormented for the first 30 mins and having a referee do nothing about it, Tomas shouldn't have been given reason to be sent off if the Referee was doing his job properly and sanctioned the Tipp lad earlier on. As for the Clare lad well I didn't see it unlike the O'Se incident so I can't comment and the CCCC will deal with both cases as they see fit I'm sure.

For a Mod you are very very biased calling players thugs without knowing the full story behind the individual case.

As for Kelly,he really let himself down today.

It might have something to do with the perceived Ó Sé style of play - tough - and the red cards the family as a whole have to their name in recent years. Or maybe it's just the fact that he's from Kerry. Or maybe he was a bit of over enthusiastic with his keyboard - as for Kelly he let himself and his team down today. The ref's report will be interesting as he had already been sent off. I would love to hear what Miskella said to get that kind of a reaction from him.

I haven't seen the incident. So I'm speaking in generalities. There's plenty of scope for violence within the rules of sport. Anything deliberate outside of those rules should be subject to the rules of the land IMO. With a huge onus on proving it deliberate.

Fk sake. Ye cant let things lie. Ó Sé deserved to be sent off, but Thuggery? You clearly didn't see the incident, and are letting your hate for Kerry cloud your judgement.

Red card doesn't make a player a thug. He punched a Tipp player in the stomach after being harrassed for the first 30minutes. The Tipp player drew back the elbow and in Paudí like fashion Tomás replied with a punch to the gut. Stupid, in a game on no consequence against opposition who's only game plan was to batter Kerry as much as they could.
As I said in the other thread, Deserved the Red card. Can't complain. Your prayers are answered with a 2 months suspension. Lucky Cork, if we get past Limerick. The "Thug will serve time

No what happened was that there was a wasp on the Tipp players gut and Tomas made sure he killed it with a punch of his own.

It is true that kelly loses his cool often which is something he has tried to elimate from his game but lost it today again. Huge pity considering he was outstanding in todays game and is a supremely talented footballer. Some reactions are over the top. Austin O Malleys elbow was far more serious due to the potential damage it could have caused with the power behind it.

Was at the game and the Clare guy seems like a right idiot; he headbutted Miskella right in front of the ref and as he was walking to the tunnel he gestured to the crowd.

Thuggery, mmmhh. Not a great choice of words there. Two 7 day bans handed out by another mod on a smilliar GAA forum for using the word thug.

As for the all the red cards yesterday, let the CCC earn its corn this week. If they want to put a stop to it then nip it the bud. I saw a few punches hitting targets in Sligo yesterday too. I hope they watch the videos of all matches and put a stop to at the beginning of the season.

It was poor enough alright. Silly thing to do. Thought it was going to be worse though from what I heard here. It was a light enough headbutt :P Still he'll be lucky to play another game this year. Fair play to Miskella for staying up and getting on with things. He seemed shocked that Kelly would even consider it.

Actually he went down straight away; I don't know if that was the force of the headbutt or he was playacting a bit. I know it didn't look like there was much force in it but you can't tell from far away I suppose.

I was disappointed that they didn't show the O'Se incident. Might not have footage for it though. How dare anyone call him a thug. He is an outstanding footballer and an inspiration to many. Hope he doesn't miss the Munster final. That Kelly....should get 6 months for it.

The Sunday Game didn't show the O Se incident because they know they would have Jack O Connor on his soapbox the next day going on about how they were persecuting Kerry again. At least if O Se gets a long suspension now nobody can say it was because of The Sunday Game.

Orizio, and a lot of others, have being threading a very fine line but have stopped short of personal abuse at a player so are just reminded to stay within the rules.

There is another rule about backseat modding, I would ask that all posters remind themselves of the rules if they aren't sure.

Amazingly there isn't in the GAA charter here , which is a mish mash of hobbled together add ons. I think that the new charter coming soon should be drafted clearly and concisely, in a single page and then locked to prevent any add ons.

In my own opinion suggesting a player is guilty of "thuggery" and calling X player a "thug" is one and the same and both cases should be dealt with in the same manner.

They would both come under these two elements of the existing charter:
    Personal Abuse
    - Posters who abuse others on here will be banned. Permanent bans will be handed out on a first offence if a moderator feels it is warranted. There is no argument on this one. Abuse someone and you will be banned. Calling someone an idiot is abuse. Don't attack the poster, attack the post.
Regular users run the risk of a longer ban due to you should know better.
NO WILD ACCUSATIONS,ABUSE OR VITRIOLIC RUMOURS OF PLAYERS,REFEREES OR GAA OFFICIALS AND/OR GAA EMPLOYEES.

Due to recent events, the GAA moderators will take a zero tolerance policy on posters who are guilty of the above offense and bans will be handed out.

Until an issue officially becomes FACT,do not present any rumours here on this forum. The moderators will also look for a link/source on presentation of any breaking news.

Any derogatory or abusive language towards a player, official, team and/or province will not be tolerated.
I hope my suggestions are taken on board during the implementation of the new charter.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,028 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

I don't want to drag this thread down into a debate on the use of language, I have made my decision, if another mod feels that another tact could be taken then that is fine.

You would want to re-read the charter
    Arguing with a Moderator
    - Do not argue with a moderator in a thread after they have given a warning or a ban etc. If you have an issue with a moderator's action then PM the mod in question. They will discuss it with you. You can then, if unsatisfied with the PM route, take things to Feedback.

Any idea what length of a ban he will get, considering this action and his track record?
Another query I have is how will this affect his club?At what point do inter county bans cover club football also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,295 ✭✭✭slingerz

miskella was to be replaced with a blood sub after this incident but cork neglected to bring eoin cadogan into the fray. miskella returned to the action to score a point to a very large cheer.

kelly had earlier got involved with a number of other cork players and was pretty wound up for the second half before his sending off

    I think people are going a bit over the top with their suggestions. A 3 month ban to me would be sufficient for two reasons;

    1. I don't believe the potential for damage to Miskella was any greater than if it had been a punch or elbow. People will be mindful of how they might hurt themselves when throwing a headbutt, and I there would be more power behind a fist or a foot.

    2. He plays for Clare. They'll have one more game, or maybe two, and that'll be it. So proposals of a six month ban are nonsensical as the championship doesn't last that long and the ban won't get carried on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Frank Spencer

You are right. In fairness he didn't go down like a ton of bricks. It was a natural reaction to receiving a head butt.

I'm sure Graham Kelly must be ashamed of himself today. The reason he needs a long suspension IMO is the fact he had already received a red card and then proceeded to act the height of stupidity and do a highly dangerous headbutt. If you done this in the street you could get 12 months in jail,he should be thankful the worst he'll endure is a suspension from playing GAA.

It was reported on the radio that he gestured to the crowd and I've heard the same from a few friends that were at the match - no one mentioned bottles though. I would imagine the crowd throwing bottles at him would have been in the news - could have happened, but I doubt it.

yes, he did wave goodbye to the crowd going off... and yes he has a bad record of getting sent off/yellow cards.. what he did was totally out of order i agree. he went down to cork and gave no respect to cork, wore his heart on his sleeve, and played well... if half his teammates had the same heart ,it would have been alot closer match... BUT (at the end of the day) he was out of order. as a clare man i agree with ye..
