Anyone watch this on History. A good show and see some very interesting things people bring in to them. But they do rod some people blind by how much they offer them. Was watching it on night and a guy sold them his truck they gave him something like $2,500 for it and it cost about $1,500 to fix up so they spent $4,000 altogether on it, but when they were buying it they told the guy they wouldn't make much money off it (he wanted around $4,000 or so for it) but after it had been fixed up he said he could easy make between $10,000 and $15,000 off it. Surely you couldn't get away with lieing like that to someone. As i said its a good show if you look past all the people on it

Good show, some really interesting bits of americana come in to that shop.

However, I wish they just focused on the items themselves and concentrate less on the contrived and obviously pre-meditated buffoonery of the lard-ass son and his equally obese buddy. Almost ruins the show.

Really enjoy this show too. Storage war is another good show something along the lines of this and maybe to a lesser extend American pickers.

Jesus yea, what a head wreck!!

Can't agree with you regarding chumley though. And you just know he's a heart attack waiting to happen...notice how he has to inhale massive gulps of air in every second word. Its really distracting.

The old man is the most tolerant of the sidekicks and beside rick's laugh, he's really good at what he does the end of the day. He describes even the most mundane items really well and always in an interesting manner.

Love Chum, what a legend. You can't take this show too seriously, that's what I like about it :)

Some other similar shows worth checking out, "Hardcore Pawn" I think is on History also and then "Storage Wars". Harcore Pawn is set in Detroit's 8 mile, some of the people are pretty rough :D. Storage Wars I only recently got into they buy old containers and sell the contents for a mega profit. Some guy bought a container for $250 and sold 1 item in it for nearlt $12,000 not including everything else!

Gets big ratings in the US, they had a missile guidance system onsale awhile back that got some press, and a visit from the FBI :-)

It's a very entertaining show when you consider that it must cost feck all to make it. There's no actors, the people selling their stuff essentially provide the script and the pawn shop gains from the publicity which probably brings thousands of gawkers every year coming to take a look and possibly buy something.

Chumley is something else, those tattoos must have cost him a few years wages.

This is my favourite show on tv right now, it's great for history buffs. They come across as greedy bastards alright but they do run a business and are not collectors. The old man is the funniest of the lot and unlike some others here I actually like rics laugh:D
I was speaking to a lad who visited the shop in march and he said there was hundreds queing up to get in. He tried to sell something to them (an old barber kit) but they didn't want it and he didn't make tv so he wasted their time by trying on super bowl rings. They cost about 250k!

Of course they are running a business but i think they rob some people, i mean they always say they wont make money off the things they buy and then turn around once they buy it and say they can easy make more the double what they paid for it. Also one night a guy had a canon and Rick said he'd buy it if it fired fair enough but what if it blow up and was distroyed? They would have lost noting and the guy's canon is gone and you can be sure they would find a way not to pay for it.

Wich brings me to another point you wwould have to wonder where do people find theres things? Hundred year old guns, canons etc

I love this show. Must say I am a fan of Chum, he always makes me laugh. I always love when they have pieces of Americana on as they are usually really interesting and unique. Plus I love the looks on people's faces when they find out that the thing they are trying to sell is actually fake. Cruel I know!

My favourite part of this show is when they have one of the experts in and he says "Well, if I was selling this at a specialist auction I'd be looking to get about $10,000 for it." and then Rick offers them $500 for it and they take it!!!
Why does nobody ever bring it to the specialist auction!!

Thats a good point actually. Rick always says if you bring it to auction they'll have to pay fees etc but i would say they would still get a whole lot more then they would off that clown who more or less robs them

Because you'd have to wait months for a specialist auction, in a particular part of the world they might only be held once a year and by definition people who walk into a pawn shop want cash on the spot and can't afford to wait.

Exactly and auctions tend to have listing fees, auctioneers fees vat\tax so you don't know what you end up with and what the Pawn shop gives the seller is fair you go to a pawn shop 1/4 of the price is what you may get.

Quite interesting videos which show how things have changed and just how much of the current show seems scripted.

As fake as Pawn Stars is, Hardcore Pawn takes it to a whole new level. It's entertaining in that Jerry Springer way.

I wouldn't say that out loud in public you may get some odd looks from people I know I did.

That Hardcore Pawn is woeful crap, the daughter could do with being taken down a peg or two, looking down her nose at everyone. Not as good as Pawn Stars. Who wants to watch someguy pawn his leg for 50dollars or a TV for 15dollars where is the entertainment in that.

    Redtube, Xvideos, Porno....

    Oh, you said Pawn.....:P

I'm not sure being honest, i've tried searching for a few episodes on youtube but couldn't find any. Especially want to see the scene where some guy attacks Rick and Anton (the big black security guard) kicks him out!

    Pawn-Stars-the-car-jfk-was-assassinated-in-let-me-call-my-buddy-whos-an-expert-in-cars-jfk-was-assassinated-in.jpg

I like Pawn Stars a lot simply for the stories behind the pieces and hearing what the experts say about them. Watching those two lads huff and puff while simply talking makes me sad though, if they keep their current lifestyles up they'll be dead by the time they hit 40.

Hardcore Pawn is scripted from start to finish in my opinion, I'd much rather watch American Pickers after Pawn Stars.

I prefer Pawn stars, to Hardcore Pawn. Theres no history or stories in Hardcore Pawn and you never learn anything interesting.

The amount of these shows on ATM is getting ridiculous. How many shoes can you have about pawn stores, pickers, auctions, storage units, etc...

The shows can be enjoyable but the overall fakeness and constant need for characters to tell the camera what just happened gets real annoying. It's a cheap run time padder, kinda like in Storm Chasers where we're told about this amazing storm instead of actually seeing the bloody thing.

That 2nd vid, they don't show those type of customers in the tv show.....it's all very safe white middle class americana, the antithesis of the other show Hardcore Pawn

edit to say, as much as I enjoy all these type shows....what exactly is their relevance to "History"

Pawn Stars turns up on Biography as well, not related to that subject either but who cares?

The scripting is getting a bit much, even Chumlee was at the negotiating patter the other night, telling the punter why his treasured item wasn't worth as much as he thought, it's all now just following the same pattern again and again.

is that the one where the guys find a bike or some other mechanical item, despite being in storage for 30 years starts with the first kick, or the 150 year old gun which does not blow up im the fat guys face when he pulls the trigger
