Good looks = Easier life?

Do you think its true? I personally believe looks help but in the video it was the female's confidence which got her the freebies. She acted more confident when she was " good looking " ?

Personally my good looks haven't had an impact on my free winnings ( unless the 1st year raffle was rigged ) (and this girl did offer me an extra hot chocolate once i spilled mine).

I radio did a thing where a man and a woman were on the side of a road with a flat tyre, the man got 1 to help, the woman got 27 offers or something.

I'm glad I've never had to find out what life on the uggo side is like so I can't really comment!!!

I do think that confidence plays a major part though, but it's a hell of a lot easier to be confident when you know you're hot!

Hardly, since women are judged far more on their physical appearance than men.

Yes it does and anyone who disagrees needs to go and read some science magazines and report back.

Nor me. Even if women are judged more, you'd be killed for ever saying anything bad about a woman's appearance to their face.

It's perfectly acceptable to call a man an ugly bastard to their face though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,000 ✭✭✭spinandscribble

    I think

attractive people= more confidence = outgoing
unattractive people= might feel less confident= less outgoing

of course there's exceptions but thats generally how it goes. some attractive people are blind that they're attractive. some unattractive people are well aware it takes more then a pretty face to be successful. Sometimes if a self fulfilling prophecy, like "no one will like/acknowledge/listen/pay attention to me coz i'm overweight/spotty/ect so I won't do x y or z."

I was under the impression that the poster was saying it was harder for good-looking women?

And if men are more likely to be called ugly, perhaps that's because society values them more for other qualities than looks, unlike women. Power, social status, that's what men are judged on. So being called ugly may not be perceived to be as low a blow to a man.

Its definitely easier for good looking people, women in particular.....ive seen women get away with murder(not literally....that i know of at least)because of their looks, men will find it a lot harder(steady!)to say no to something to a pretty girl than an average or not very good looking one,its nature, men like looking at attractive women.......not fair but thats life,*shrugs shoulders* its hardwired into us

Well, I'm not a blob of primordial ooze or anything, but I'm certainly not attractive. However I used to be unattractive + had bad acne.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt, my quality of life has improved since getting rid of my acne. Even things as small as someone letting me go ahead of them when they open a door, never happened when I had acne, and it's no coincidence.

I get lots of things for free despite being so ugly the only job I could get was ringing bells. Mind you, the people who are giving me these free things are usually trying to get rid of me ASAP.

Note: the above has been edited a lot like the video in the OP

Only counts for women, and even then only because some guys are unbelievably pussy whipped.

You can blame mainstream children's / teenager's media for that. The whole empowerment theme went a bit far in the 90s when almost every kid's show portrayed the guys as always finishing second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66 ✭✭reera82

While I think life might be more difficult for less attractive people, I definitely think that for average to good looking people it is all about the confidence and the smile. A confident person will almost always get the girl/boy or haggle the price of an item to their satisfaction.

Of course not,he actually is good looking(according to some lady friends anyway......but not as good looking as he thinks, and the vanity is a major turn off by all accounts)

I'm a guy and it really annoys me when a woman who knows she's good looking tries to get a favour from me - whether it's cutting the queue or asking to borrow something - by flickering her eye lids and smiling. I always make a point of ignoring them.

If I were in a position of power I'd make things very difficult for people who rely on their looks to make their lives easier.

    Glad to hear it! :)

Many many men fall for it though. :(

You realize that this is actually the ultimate door to flirting with someone, when they behave this way and you challenge it? Just saying, it's a subtle and very convenient way of hitting on someone. Don't just refuse and let it go, refuse and see if you can get anywhere. :P

Definitely. However, looks are subjective. Theres women who I know are very attractive but they do nothing for me. They're good looking but not sexy.

I think it depends. I find people seem to think I'm a bit stupid because apparently you can't be intelligent and attractive. They seem to be surprised that I'm aiming for college courses with high points. It's often happened, when I give a good answer in class, it's met with "omg you're smart!!??":(

The maggot in the custard tho is money, when you have it, you are ten feet tall and ooze confidence. Without it, you are wary and lack confidence.
"So Debbie, what was it that attracted you to the multi millionare Paul Daniels??"

of course its true. until the looks start to fade - then theyre screwed

Sorry, I'm not actually weak for myself or anything, but surely most people are aware when they're not ugly?

I was trying to put it in a way that I didn't sound full of it, because I'm not. I'm not a "stunner" or a model or anything of the sort. But I definitely don't look I've been dragged through a bush either. That modest enough for you?:pac:

    umm 2 things...

firstly what do you mean by 'good-looking'...there are people who are born 'good-looking' in the conventional sense and there are people like the girl in the video who make the best of what they have, she's the same person in both scenarios, she's just dressed different, make-up done, hair did etc.

Secondly...all of the people the girl approaches in this video are men! I'd like to see her approach some women and see what happens.

I dont think the video really tackles whether 'good-looking' people have it easier or not, more like how big a sucker guys are to someone wearing a short skirt etc

I'd say things are easier for 'good-looking' people esp 'good-looking' girls when guys are concerned, I'd also say people misjudge them. But I wouldnt know :P

And they'll find it much harder than someone of average looks who has got where they are because of others qualities that shall remain once the ravages of age take hold!

    Works both ways

I can't get that video to work for me but I've read she is approaching men

Just going by this hellhole I call a job, the biddys in the office never, ever call a girl overweight.
But they comment "skinny bitch" to the slim good looking girls and new hires.

Seems to me you get more abuse for being slim and looking well then you do for letting yourself go
