    Hi,

I have a Fox or two taking my hens. It was once a week but now it is once every 2nd day and it is getting closer to the House.

Anybody Interested coming out and hunting in Clonee, Meath/Dublin Boarder? (10 mins from M50)

It has a track into out field where it crosses a river so shouldn't take long!! and a trail of feathers back to the ditch.

PM me and only boards members with a history/many posts will be entertained!!

    Thanks :)

You haven't added your proposals for 'dealing' with any captured fox:confused:

I assume if the OP has posted here for help they would rather someone else 'deals' with the problem.

    Hi,

No i don't want to get a trap.

Yes we are surrounded by a lot of land so shooting is no problem.

I Reckon there was no fox ,it was just some animal rights crew trying to lure some of the lads off here down to clonee for a hiding:D

    I reckon he was legit.

Problem is getting the fox to give you a safe shot.

Foxes tend to know where it i safe for them to be ;)

You coundnt really be shooting foxes with a.17hmr. A .223 would be the right job.;)

That would not agree with my hunting ethos. .17hmr is a small rabbit gun. .223 if you ever get one you wont look back.;) As I see in your previous posts youd get one if you could lad.

Who cares what you think................he ain't doing anything illegal and as he says he gets clean kills. Maybe he don't need to substitute power for accuracy ;)

Have plenty of experience with different larger calibers and if you read my previous posts you will see i said i would have one but i enjoy the rabbit shooting too so the hmr suits me at the moment as an all rounder. im not disagreeing with you that the 223 is a better for the job and when i can afford one i will get one but as it stands i have great success with the hmr on foxes so its not against my hunting ethics. suggest you try it before you knock it

the fox you showed me looked as if it the 17hmr had killed it dead enough!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,896 ✭✭✭jap gt

like the old saying goes 'YOU CANT GET DEADER THAN DEAD'

kildare is well capable of killing foxes, a 17hmr will kill a fox no bother once a fella doesnt go taking hero shots trying to hit them in the eye etc, i just sold my 22wmr and shot plenty foxes and almost always got clean kills

I shot 9 foxes with a .22lr. All Rifles are dangerous to Vulpine's

The only benefit of centrefire is an extra couple of hundred yards and more knock down if a shot goes not according to plan

mmm. Iv actually met and seen kildare's results on foxes with the .17hmr. Would i do it if had one? Probably not, id have the .223 but dont base your own limitations on others;). Kildare knows his shooting.

I recieved a PM back, so thank you. Make sure that you own the land around your house or else get express permission from the land owner, otherwise you will really piss off the local landowner/farmer by asking people to do fox control! You should contact the local gun club - Dunboyne or Clonee - because it's their turf.. if it was my gun club i wouldnt be very happy about the neighbours inviting down lads from other areas. The lads down in Clonee would be happy to help.

Depends if they will help him, i know in our club it is only 1 or 2 of us saps out of 35 that will go out and deal with requests from land owners.

Yeah its real fun having to stand in the pissings of rain probably only getting a few shots.:D:D:D. Ah no your right in one way when you get a good day and the shots are flying you dont mind too much. See that's what bugs me the same couple of lads doing vermin, pigeon shooting ,work on the pen and pheasant rearing ,then when it comes to the meeting you get every ****ing clown turning up and causing murder, then going out and beating the land sick during the season.the sooner their hips go the better.

Was expecting a phone call... never got one. Wasnt me who dealt with this Fox, i recommended that the person try to contact the local gun club and if they couldnt i would get them a contact in the club through the MRGC. Thats the way it should be done. They are well able to deal with foxes themselves down there, a lot of them boys wouldnt be on boards or the like. The results speak for themselves - Meath topped the vermin count the last 2 years running!!

Ive also heard that they had 400 at Christmas!!! 4euro for each one! (Might be less this year) Thats how you make the club money!

It is handy money if you have them on your land.Think we only have 10 so far. Our land hasn't many on them.Pity they don't give you 4euro for a fox

It's weird that no one actual counts the vermin:rolleyes:They take it on there word they shot 1000+ foxes every season;) there should be photo evidence or every tail which has to be given in, not a phone call from such and such to say yea 1000+ foxes:D

We have a vermin count in september in Dublin, All clubs have reps and vermin officers there so no cheating can take place ,we leave our vermin with them after, they were taking photos last year ,the squirrel tails were of most interest. That was first time i seen any photos being taking though
