Heard earlier today that Rico Rodriguez had signed to fight with CC

Which I thought was great news, big fan of Ricco and I still feel he's quite relevant. He's on a win streak against decent competition. Then I read he's been arrested for some serious enough charges http://www.cagepotato.com/ricco-rodriguez-assault-arrest-began-with-a-cab-fare-dispute-ended-with-a-police-officer-being-shoved-into-a-wall/

Can anyone clarify what the story is with him and I know it's early days but do people think he will fight for CC??

Cage Contender do not make announcement that we can't keep. This fight was agreed just before the incident in Phoenix. But it was only today that we got the all clear to announce the fight.

There will be a full announcement about the event in the coming days

Don't know of an Irish heavyweight who could touch him to be honest. Waiting for the announcement of who he's going to be fighting :D

I don't know of any one either Andrew. As things stand he will be fighting another UFC vet from Europe. We should be clear to announce details in a few days

CAGE CONTENDER XI will take place on 8th October 2011. The city and venue will be announced in the coming weeks. Any teams wanting to get fighters on the card should get in touch straight away.

Ex UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco "Suave" Rodriguez will be fighting for the Cage Contender Heavyweight Title. Ricco has wins in his record over both Randy Couture and Jeff Monson plus he is a vet of Pride, Elite XC, WEC, and IFL. His opponent will be announced shortly but you can be rest assured it will be a big name match up. Oh and the other title fight might raise a few eyebrows too :)

    CAGE CONTENDER HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
    Ricco "Suave" Rodriguez v TBC

    CAGE CONTENDER LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE
"Magic" Myles Price (SBGi) v "Stormin" Norman Parke (KO Dynasty)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,660 ✭✭✭SDTimeout

    Price and Parke alone :D

That's quite true Sid. But so are Rosie Sexton and Aisling Daly and they both fought on CW not too long ago. Bellator seem quite good with stuff like that apparently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 963 ✭✭✭Richy06

Ais isn't under contract with Bellator anymore I don't think, but she was when she fought Rosie.

As long as it's not McSweeney I'll be happy! He needs to go down to LHW and learn some takedown defence! Great stand up but always looks overwhelmed on the ground.

Whoever is matched up with Rodriguez it'll be great press for Irish MMA.

I was listening to an interview with the CEO of Bellator on Ariel Helwani's show and he said that his big name fighters, Hector Lombard, Eddie Alvarez and someone else I can't remember have a lot of freedom in taking fights outside of USA. The examples given were HL was allowed to fight in Australia and EA to fight in Japan.

so probably the same thing applies here :D

As far as i am aware Ais is still under contract to Bellator, and she as def not fought Rosie.

and whats wrong with McSweeny may I enquire :p

Thanks John, congrats really looking forward to it. How about Stav Economou as an opponent?

Sorry, it was late, I meant Molly!

Just not a fan of his to be honest, nothing personal. I just think he's not got the tools to be a success in MMA. His record speaks for itself in that regard! :p

He showed some early promise but I don't think he's complimented his standup with defensive wrestling or a decent BJJ game. Plus he's already lost to Ricco...so yer not getting him in are you?

Either way, I look forward to seeing Ricco in action!

I will be disapointed if it is anyone other than the most manly man in the world DON FRYE:D

He's on a four fight losing streak, hasn't shown anything good since he beat Schoonover.

Stav Economou is a good bet or Konstantin Gluhov who fights out of Riga

The Rooney fight is one i feel that if announcements are made could be for a vacant title. If not it could decide the number one man to that title.

Robert is a seasoned martial artist who is currently 3-1-0 and is coming off a win at BAMMA 4. On the other hand JK speaks very highly of Charlie Ward who will be stepping up to make his pro debut after only 1 Semi Pro fight
