    -Insurance €600 per year
    -Tax €500 per year
    -M50 toll €1000 per year
    -Petrol €70 per week * 52 = €3640
    -Service €400

    = €6140 €118 a week!

    Jesus, It's not really worth driving anymore!

    I just worked out my fuel bill alone and it's about €25 north of your total cost!

    You also forgot about depreciation.

    Tax=550
    Tolls=50
    Petrol=45 x 52=€2340
    Service=150
    Insurance=1300

    €3,990. ouch

    -Insurance €450 per year
    -Tax €75 per year
    -Tolls €100 per year
    -Petrol €35 per week * 52 = €1820
    -Service €250 per year
    -Depreciation €400 per year

    = €3,100 a year, or thereabouts. All I can say is thank God I drive a diesel and pay tax abroad.

    Tax - €1000
    Insurance - €300
    Petrol - €3000
    Tyres - €250/€300 (two a year we'll say as I do 10,000miles/annum)
    Servicing - €150 (self service so that's decent oil, filters and long life plugs)
    Other - €300 (pads, battery, exhaust bit, whatever over a year)

    Depreciation - €500 we'll say

    Insurance 48/month
    Tax 110 / month
    APK (NCT) 4.16 /month
    Incidentals (Tickets etc) 80/month
    Repairs: circa 40 euros / month
    Fuel: 310 /month
    Maintenence: 33/month * Excluding tyres

    625 / month.

    Thats not even taking Depreciation into account.

    I get 35c/km back in my taxes in one direction only to work, thats 128km/day, 4 days / week, 4 weeks roughly .... 614 euros

    So i'm ALMOST breaking even, although the car will cost more to get rid of let alone sell when I'm done with it :)

    I wouldn't count that as a yearly running cost tbh. Technically speaking, you're not actually losing/using any money. I just ignore it tbh, the more you think about it the worse it gets. Tis why when it comes to getting the car I eventually want (370z gt special version) I won't give a fcuk about anything bar the smile on my face :D

    Tax: 333
    Insurance: 800-1200
    Petrol: I'd say in the region of 3k
    NCT: 50
    Service: 150
    Other: ~600

    ~€5400

    yay :cool:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,864 ✭✭✭Daegerty

    Tax = 450
    Insurance = ~660
    Tolls = ~10 a year

    Petrol = could be 30e one month and 150 the next

    maintainence = few 100e per year, including 1 oil change and whtever else goes wrong with it

    NO depreciation as my car is worth a negative amount of money

    Yeah .. I'd save around 700 / year using my German Address as my Primary Residence.

    But then it would completely wipe out the tax rebate I get on my mortgage.

    I just bought a car a month ago and so far I've had to pay:
    €1000 = insurance
    €200= tax
    €50= NCT

    plus the cost of a new tire and maybe a battery! And that is before i drive it out the gate!

    petrol €30 x 4= €120 (at least its fuel efficient)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,686 ✭✭✭✭Zubeneschamali

    S-Max running costs about €8500, depreciation €6500, total €15K per year.

    Mini running €2500, depreciation €2000, total €4500 per year.

    Total for 2 car household: €19.5K

    If you're not including depreciation, you're doing it wrong. Finance, too, if you're paying it.

    Tax: 614
    Insurance: 850
    Petrol: About 3000

    Annual cost of loan: 4,200
    Typres: 300, two new front tyres.
    Toll: Rougly 600 for the year

    Total: 9814

    :eek::eek: why did i bother working that out, I dont even want to factor in depreciation costs now:(

    Here's a spreadsheet I made up a while ago. Just fill in the blue cells.

    It's scary.

    Thats pretty cool, Just this morning I was working out the total costs of having a petrol vs a diesel version of my car over a year to see if I should have gone diesel. That Excel document is very handy, way quicker too:)

    Tax €333
    Insurance €1116
    Servicing €150
    Fuel €2464
    Depreciation €250

    Total running costs = €4063 OR €338 per month

    Tax €614
    Insurance €900
    Service (essential) €200
    Non essential / preventative work €500
    Tires €270
    Fues €3000

    €5984. That's a bare minimum. I reckon I didn't suffer much depreciation this year as I got the car at a good price, maybe about €1k max. Next year that will be about €2-3k.

    As below from my car cost comparison sheet. I drive this and expect it will be worthless in 5 years, hence the high rate of depreciation. Worked out cheaper than buying any of the diesels I was interested in, what with the crazy prices these days.

    The more I read this thread the less guilty / stoopid I feel about driving a luxobarge. My running costs work out at €135 a week and there's plenty on here with basic cars costing much, much more to run when you include depreciation.

    V8 all the way - I is happy! :)
