What's all this carb and protein cycling about? it really is new too me,

from my understanding, eat mainly carbs one day then protein the next day?
and the body likes this? for real!?:confused:

    Hey Horgan,

I don't think everyone's doing it or anything, but I do cycle protein and carbs for a few reasons, nothing of which I have hard science to back up or anything, but it suits me so I keep on with it.

Basically I do one day with less than 20g protein every couple of days (<5% calories), on those days I eat as much rice and potatoes as I like coupled with a little fat. So a good example would be a veggie thai red curry with rice. Or potato gratin, baked potato with salsa and sour cream or fruit salad with cream.

Stops me from getting bored with food and keeps the body from settling into a rut.

It's supposed to help with longevity and promote the same benefits of fasting. But to be honest I haven't even looked into those claims, I just know it makes me feel great.

    Here's a book on it:

I'm not sure of the benefits for weight loss as I'm not really trying to lose weight.

Ok, just trying to get my head around it, would you be more active on the carb days?

would you notice crashes on the higher protein days?

Not really, but that's not to say some wouldn't. I have fairly good carb tolerance and my glycogen stores wouldn't be full on the start of the high carb days.
