Time of the month and relation to weight gain

    Hi,
I am on a diet at the moment and am consistently losing about 4-5 pounds every week. However last week even though I stuck religiously to the diet I was up three pounds, which the dietician contributed to me being due my period. This week however is my time of the month and I am dreading getting weighed in this evening. Could the lack of progess definitely be attributed to this? I just don't want the Dietician thinking I've been cheating even when I haven't. Thanks

I think part of the problem may be "losing 4-5 pounds a week". Unless you are grossly obese and are on a supervised Very Low Calorie diet, this is too much. Many people find that when they start a good diet, particularly one which cuts out all the white carbs, that they lose a lot of weight quickly, then the weight loss stops or slows to a crawl.

This is normal, and I'm certain your dietitian does not expect you to continue to lose 4-5lbs every week. Even people who've had gastric surgery can't lose that fast.

Having said that, yes, your period does play games with your weight loss. Guys tend to lose weight in a fairly straight line, so much a week, while women find that some weeks they lose, and other weeks they don't. You are probably better looking at your loss per month than per week.
