IMF boss Strauss-Kahn pulled off plane, arrested in sodomy probe

The French political bigshot who heads the International Monetary Fund was arrested for allegedly sodomizing a Manhattan hotel maid today — getting hauled off an Air France flight just moments before takeoff from Kennedy Airport, police sources told The Post.
Three Port Authority detectives pulled Dominique Strauss-Kahn from the plane’s first-class cabin just two minutes before it was due to depart for Paris, the sources said.

Strauss-Kahn, 62, was turned over to NYPD officers from the Midtown South precinct, and the case is being investigated by the Special Victims Unit.

The trouble began around noon today, when a housekeeper entered Strauss-Kahn’s room at the Sofitel on West 44th Street.
Strauss-Kahn was in his bathroom, said sources. He emerged from the bathroom naked, said the sources, and grabbed her.
Then, Strauss-Kahn allegedly threw the housekeeper on the room’s bed and forced her to perform oral sex on him, said the sources.
Strauss-Kahn let the maid leave — and soon afterward, headed off to Kennedy Airport for his flight to Paris.
The NYPD’s special victims unit is investigating the case, the sources said.

His arrest tonight could force him to postpone a planned meeting in Berlin on Sunday with German chancellor Angela Merkel.
Strauss-Kahn, a leader of France’s Socialist Party, is the leading rival to President Nicholas Sarkozy in the 2012 election.
Sarkozy was said in a news report yesterday to have begun a smear campaign against his rival that focused on his lavish lifestyle — including Strauss-Kahn’s purchase of suits from the same tailor who clothes President Obama.

But Strauss-Kahn seems able to find trouble on his own. In 2008, he publicly admitted to "an error of judgment" for having an affair with an IMF subordinate. In France’s 2007 vote, Strauss-Kahn lost the Socialist Party nomination to Segolene Royal, who in turn fell to defeat against Sarkozy, leader of the right-wing Union for a Popular Movement.
But Sarkozy, who still sees Strauss-Kahn as his likeliest electoral rival, is believed in France to have maneuvered him out of France by backing him to head the Washington-based International Monetary Fund.

Strauss-Kahn is married to New York-born Anne Sinclair, a leading French TV journalist.
He was France’s Minister of Economy and Finance from 1997 to 1999, when he resigned to battle charges he was paid for consulting work he never did. But judges decided he really did the work, and prosecutors were forced to admit they had no evidence of fraudulent motive.

The next step in the process requires the maid to sign up to an austerity program.

It'll be interesting to see how this develops. Curious that he wasn't charged with rape though rather than sodomy?

He's in the running for the French presidency... this seems fishy.

Technically yes, but generally clarity is provided on a specific act/assault to avoid confusion.

    for raping Ireland

    Not really

Apparently hes been charged for sexual assault on a Female Hotel worker
IMF Head Faces Charges Over Sex Attack Claims

The head of the IMF is expected to be charged with a criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment following an alleged attack on a hotel maid in New York.

IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn Dominique Strauss-Kahn was taken into custody at JFK airport after being pulled off a flight to Paris just minutes before take-off.

Authorities are investigating an alleged attack on a maid at the Sofitel New York hotel near Manhattan's Times Square.

A lawyer representing Mr Strauss-Kahn has indicated he "will plead not guilty" to the allegations.
New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said officers had been called to the hotel shortly after the alleged incident.

He said Mr Strauss-Kahn had already left the hotel, leaving behind his mobile phone and other personal items.

"It looked like he got out of there in a hurry," he added.
Detectives discovered he was at the airport and contacted the Port Authority, who took Mr Strauss-Kahn from the Air France flight.

Police said it was not immediately clear if the 62-year-old had been planning to leave on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Strauss-Kahn took over as head of the International Monetary Fund in November 2007. The 187-nation lending agency is based in Washington and provides help in the form of emergency loans for countries facing severe financial problems.

He won praise for his leadership at the IMF during the financial crisis of 2008 and the severe global recession that followed.

More recently, he has directed the IMF's participation in bailout efforts to keep a European debt crisis which began in Greece from destabilising the global economy.
In October 2008, Mr Strauss-Kahn issued an apology to the IMF staff after accusations that he had a sexual relationship with an IMF subordinate.

"While this incident constituted an error in judgment on my part, for which I take full responsibility, I firmly believe that I have not abused my position," he wrote in an email to IMF staff.
The IMF board found his actions "regrettable" and said they "reflected a serious error of judgment". The board found that the relationship was consensual.

I wish more people would realise that. The IMF negotiators were disgusted at the way the Irish sided again and again with the EU during the talks, completely to the detriment of the country. The IMF isn't the boogeyman, it's fucking Brussels that is.

and you should read the Morgan Kelly article Irish Times May 7th.

The IMF had planned to haircut unguaranteed bond holders, saving the irish taxpayer 20 billion but this was veto by treasury secretary Timothy Geithner.

The IMF were scathing of the Irish performance, with one staffer describing the eagerness of some Irish negotiators to side with the ECB as displaying strong elements of Stockholm Syndrome

Sodomy means anything other than vaginal sex.

But sodomy laws were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court back in 2005, so if he was charged with a crime, it would have to be sexual assault or something along those lines.
