If anyone is ever stupid enough to have a kid with me I'd go with 'Kieren' for a boy and prob one of the Irish names for a girl like 'Aoife'

Shame on me, after reading Kieren I presumed you would say Kiera for a girl.

I hate Irish names, love traditional English ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,420 ✭✭✭Dionysus

Aodhan for a boy; Caoimhe for a girl. Hopefully they won't be "fashionable" by the time I have kids. I prefer names within the Irish historical tradition over having ten Patricks and Marys in the one extended family in order to honour some family member. Seriously boring parents there.

Androgynous names like Alex, Adrian, Gerry etc are just a nuisance. English names like John, David, Robert, Patrick, Mary, Anne, Sarah, Emma, Margaret, Helen, Paul and Michael are so indicative of creatively-challenged conservative parents it's not funny. But the ones who want to always fit in to the latest name fashion and fear their kids standing out - their insecurity is most contemptible. Never trust people who crave acceptance.

I think I've annoyed enough people now! hehe.

We've a bit of a tradition of giving kids in our family Irish names and I'm stuck with a really obscure one that's actually a man's name in most countries...and I'm living in one of those countries. Happy Days! Still love Irish names though...

    Irish names: Fiach and Naoise

Farginnnn names: Nina and Francisco (or Paco for short...which I don't like).
