Not sure whether to post this here or on the food board....

Want to bake or make some nice "treats" for my pal who is not allowed eat any sugar, incl that in fruit.

Ideas & suggestions all gratefully accepted.

I have both Splenda & Xylitol at hand.

You can follow any recipe you have replacing sugar for splenda. I use it all the time and it works well.

    Xylitol ftw

Xylitol behaves more like sugar while baking, so that's the one I'd go for. However, why is your friend not allowed any sugar, including fruit? If it's to do with candida or thrush etc, the flour and other baking ingredients are just as bad.

She had radiation to treat oral cancer and has to make sure , as best she can, never to need any dental work ever as the radiation makes you susceptible to infection of the bone if work was needed.

Then she needs to avoid flour and things like that as much as sugar. As soon as you chew them, they start to break down into sugar (chew a bit of plain bread until it's liquid, and see how sweet it becomes).

When I had a bone graft and implant, every dentist I saw make a point of avoiding all refined carbs, including bread and baked goods, pretty much forever.

Dear oh dear, I fear if I told her that it might just send her over the edge. She is extremely careful about her dental hygiene too. I wonder why she wasn't advised the same though...

You can be lucky or unlucky with dentists as well as with doctors. Mine certainly tells me stuff that DH's dentist never mentions.

Perhaps it would be better to guide her to more tooth friendly treats? There are some lovely sugar-free ice-creams and things you could make.

Starches are broken down into sugar in the mouth by saliva, no?

I'd say she'd be better just to eat what she wants (within reason) and brush and floss after each meal. I know a dental student from on here. You want me to point her towards this thread?

Those recipes would be great Eileen , thanks.
She's had loads of dental advice from several dentists so I think she's good on that front Khannie, thanks though.
