Your Astro performances

Scored 4 and 4 assists lastnight in a 15-10 victory.
Outfield : With space a premium only 5 a side last night usually 7 a side I was busy running on the counter. Happy enough with my performance although made two elementry errors early on in defence to give away 2 goals. I put it down to being 5 minutes late.
Gaoalkeeping duties :Let in 2 goals which were well taken and made a spectacular save.
Injuries :No knocks picked up, but felt my calf tightening late on after a clumbsy challange by an opponent.
No other incidents, good clean fun.
Conditions: Perfect conditions, little or no wind and pitch dry through out.

Do people really keep count of how many assists they get?

Yes. A little dink to the far post, a telling cross onto someones toe or measured through ball that splits the defence to set up an easy goal.

For the second time in a week I couldn't even run. I don't get it; I played a game the other day and I felt like I could have played on for another hour. Last night my ankle felt dodgy right from the off and before long my knees were in bits.

Are we seriously discussing how people played in a 5-a-side astro match?

In that case I played there about 5 months back for my cousins birthday. The game finished all in (about 9-a-side) and with a score line aproaching something like 30-30. I think I scored 12 and setup about 10. Played in goal for 5 mins and didn't conceed.

The result? I'm a super star, you're not.

Finest moment in quite some time at UCD last Thursday. Long ball over the top, I catch it on the volley as it drops over my shoulder and loft it over the advancing keeper all in one movement.

Then I missed a handy one from about 6 yards out. Such is ife.

my team won 17-15 the other night, I scored ten and set up two, all this despite having a hip injury... although I had been goalhanging since I can't run as much as normal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,763 ✭✭✭Jax Teller

Keane afc - ball above head height thats a no go for when we play and can't score from outside the box .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,206 ✭✭✭gustavo

I was the extra man last night so I spend most of the time hanging around up front avoiding any kind of running and fluffing passes and shots when the ball inexplicably landed at my feet

I usually score a couple each game.Maybe 3-5, I dunno. Never really keep count. Wouldn't bother me either I do it mostly for the fun of it.

Ah you're missing out. We play outdoors, nothing like burying a header past the keeper.

Counting how many goals & assists you got on Astro is a bit bemusing tbh.
Although I'm guessing this post is a piss take, considering you mention that you made a spectacular save, and that the pitch was dry throughout.

I wish I was good at football :(

We need an astro crap league for bad players!

Dont score much myself but set up a few. I generally stay back most games though, prefer to stop people scoring.

Do you insist on having throw-ins when you play?

If I could play the Barcelona way I would but as I can't I'll do my best to stop everyone else doing so.

Just finished our Astro.ie season last night in DCU, i finished with about 16 goals i think, only played the first few games up front, played more defensive for most games. We finished 2nd in the league too so kind of disappointed with that but it was our first time to enter so can't be too disappointed.

Playing in goal awhile ago I got a volley straight to the face while getting up from a previous save, couldn't see properly for a good 5 minutes.

Ball didn't go in though which is what counts.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Usually score 3 or 4 meself when tis 6 or 7 a side, when it drops to 5 though I usually get 6 or so thanks to me ould nippyness on the counter.

Scored a half volley from within my own half a couple of years ago off the crossbar and in, probably one of the greatest moments in my very sad life.

Love the Astro Soccer battles on a saturday, recently started up again after 10 years plus of no soccer......

Landed a few Beckham style passes/long balls lately and a few sneaky drag backs when players were flying in to block shots, made the blocker look pretty foolish really!

Ah you'd get lots of 2 on 1's at the end when everyone's boll*xed and can't be arsed tracking back.. Or you do when we play anyway, fitness is not our strength.:pac:

Scarily apt. At the start no one wants to play in goals, by the end you have lads physically fighting to get a chance to stend in goals for a rest, hands on knees, sucking in air, Saturday nights beer running up and down your back..... boll*xed....

I generally play a quite defensive role as in astro everyone wants to be fvcking Pele. I'm good for an assist or two as well, usually the most reliable crosser of the ball in my team.

Although I tend to stop more goals than I score, my lack of quantity is made up for by the quality of the goals I do get.

Generally I'll do nothing in front of goals for weeks at a time and then produce something Le Tissier would be proud of and leave everyone's jaws on the floor as they weren't expecting it from me. I've been known to poke a few taps in's away too of course but I've got fonder memories of some my my more audacious efforts, it's just a pity the replays only exist in my memory and no one else could give a fvck:pac:

    Glazers Out!

Matchday is once again upon me, early kickoff this evening and the most important thing to remember stop drinking coffee at 2 o clock and start my pre hydration.
I have learnt my lesson reguarding drinking coffee a half hour before kick off and then lashing down the Luzosade sport.
Conditions look promising and the numbers dedicated allready have reached 8.

Just throwing the astro boots on now...one or 2 late withdrawels...the windy night dont help...hoping for a goal or 2 :D

Had a shocker tonight. I blame the wind and everything in the whole world apart from me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭danniemcq

first game in maybe 5 months tonight, thought i was gonna puke during the game, i was wearing liverpool top surrounded by mostly man utd fans and the Newcastle fan that was on the other team is far from a friend to say the least,

ended up scoring 5 including one i took of newcastle fans toe got a head to it and caught it on the half volley to open my scoring.

The carroll celebration was probably a step to far but i couldn't resist!

2nd game back this eve after 2 months out with ligament damage and fractured ankle........goin great then in the last minute i wreck myself goin for the ball.......gutted :( hope its just strained though, nothin major again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,536 ✭✭✭Dolph Starbeam

Had a game tonight, over crowded pitch plus poor quality of players meant there wasn't much point trying too hard, couldn't make any runs as i was never picked out and could only play simple passes as nobody was making good runs, was good banter though and better than nothing.
