Getting a bit nervous about this now. I havn't swam or cycled in a few months now
I'm hoping my improved running fitness will help me out with the other two.
Starting this week I'm going to use my 2 rest days from running to cycle and swim.
I think I did 1'31 last year so should be still able to beat that.
Swim tonight - so I'll see how many laps I can get done.

What time goals have people got for this year. I did 1:31 last year and I think (swim depending) that I could take ten mins off, if I have a very good day.

Tell me your race number and I'll make sure I'm marshalling in Clonegal so that I can push you up that hill ;)

So how is everyone getting along, its an out door pool swim so i take it no wet suit needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,054 ✭✭✭griffin100

No wetsuit is needed, pool is heated and always warm, even when it's freezing outside.

Ten minutes Woddle? I have two hopes of that. Bob and No. :D Did a 1.33 and if I scrape a few minutes off it Ill be happy. I remember that hill in Clonegal, when the kid told me to 'go faster will ya'. And the run. Oh god that bloody hill to the turnaround. Thought it would never end. :)

But still, am looking forward to it, there should be a lot of familiar faces around.

So what are the run and cycle routes like ?

Many per lane in the swim, slow coach here will need his own lane;)

Cycle is a little hilly but nothing to worry about.
Run is an out and back, the out is a bitch, all uphill on wobbly legs.
Swim will have 5 or 6 in your lane and can be a little messy but still fine, just don't do anything stupid and lead the swim out :D

10 might be slighly on the optimistic side :D but I did a swim TT last week and swam the same time as the race last year. I also reckon I'll be quicker over T1, I should take 4/5 mins off last years run time, the bike I'm not sure but I think my better run fitness should help here.

    Cheers,

I'll just focus on down hill the whole way back on the run, i've stated doing a hilly run once a week now to build on that part.

Good chance to use the tri bars on the cycle ???

If the swim is as well marshalled as it was in Laois ( no passing mid length etc ) i'll be happy, slow but happy.

    It will be ;)

Bike is ok. Out of Bunclody is a bit of a hill then a very fast descent into Kildavin after which its rolling cross country (including a bit of a hill in Clonegal) followed by a fast section back into Bunclody.

Run is a simple affair - run up a hill, turnaround, and run back down again:)

Swim marshals were great last year, or at least for everyone else they were. I kept getting held back to let others pass. :)

There is a brill sweeping downhill on the bike as you come back, so you have that to look forward to as well. It finishes in a steep downhill neutral zone.

Another positive i can roll back down the hill if it comes to that:D

I'm going for 1:40..........that takes into account my slow swim:(

Guys, I have not swam in about 3 months, Cycling and running is pretty good.
I would estimate I could take about 6 lengths without a breather, any point me turning up?

Do people stop for breathers between lengths? When I entered Im pretty sure I put the slowest possible time for the swimming section.

I wouldn't worry as i'll be stopping every 2 lengths, only started swimming in feb and am still very slow ! I put 20 min in the swim time, i still think i'll be slower than that on the day.

I stopped about 3 times for a breather and had a chat with one of the helpers :D
You'll be grand and similar to you I've only swam once (last week) in 3 months and same on the bike.

Just sorted out my one day licence. I assume I just bring the email with odl number and ID.
I havn't recieved anything from the race regarding waves and bib number. Thought we had sth by now last year?
Also is it too late to change to a slower swim wave. I definitely over estimated my swim improvement.

    Swim - 20:o
    T1 - 1:30ish
    Cycle - 38 to 40
    T2 - 1:30
    Run - 28

The swim is what really kills me but i can't complain really seeing as i'm only swimming since feb. Run could be faster but i'm aware of the "hill". The cycle is my strongest and if there is no wind sub 40 should be within my remit.

The cycle was my best discipline last year with 45:58. I've only been on the bike once this year but I'm hoping all the running I've been doing will get me 42. Don't want to over cook the bike either like I did that last year as I was wrecked for the run.

Ya anything sub 40 min in the cycle would be amazing for me as i need to be hitting 2 min/km as often as i can.

    The swim is eh........

Run is getting better but i need to keep shedding the pounds as its like someone else trying to run 5km with a 4 stone bag od spuds on their back:mad:

You didnt ask, but anyway. :D

    Swim: 13
    T1 1.15
    Bike: 47
    T2 1.15
    Run: 24

My bike last year was 51. Terrible. I dont think I can do much on the other two but I hope to make time there, tho Im still terrible. This is a training event for me so not going to worry too much.

Gave it a 5, very well organised and well marshalled and everyone was so friendly.
