Sup rent allowance/deposit/1st month

    hi i was wondering did anyone ever do this
    i am on the dole/so is my gf/we are expecting a baby soon
    1. i was going to pay the deposit and 1st months rent seen as its the only way we can get a place,but after the first month i cant afford anymore rent as its all my savings invested in our future living together!
    2. HAS ANYONE EVER DONE THIS AND WENT TO THE SUPPLEMENTARY RENT ALLOWANCE OFFICER AND BEEN RE-INBURSTED/GIVEN THE DEPOSIT AND 1ST MONTHS RENT BACK???
    we cant get onto the housing list without doing it this way as our circumstances dont allow us to go about it anyu other way!:(
    we are very stuck at the moment and want to get our own place,just we need help after the first month!

    Hi,

    In order to quailfy for Rent Supplement, you have to have been in rented (or homeless)accomdation for 6 months and at the time have been able to afford it or have been accessed by your local authority as in need of housing. This is ususaly the genreal rule before Rent Supplement will be paid. On occasions the CWO may back date you the first month as you said that is the only way of you securing the accomadation, but usualy that is only if you would quailfy for Rent Supplement for it on the above grounds. Before you go ahead I would make sure that you qualify first, go down and ask for the forms and speak to your Local Community Welfare Officer before you to as I would not like for you to end up worse off.

    I replied to this but it vanished.. first thing is to see the CWO; and to know what the rent limit is for your area.

    Why would they refund the deposit though? You will get that back when you leave..
