Well done! If taken correctly it will seriously improver any gains in the gym.
I recommend before you take it that you buy yourself if you dont have any a good fish oil supplement and a good multi vitamain.

Best time to take is after the gym and before. What I would recommend is put 3 scoops in your shaker. Fill with water/milk before. Drink about a quater of it before the gym and the rest after. I'd say you got a scoop alright. I thought this for ages but then when I got down to the bottom of the tub there it was I was disgusted! lol So be sure to check inside the powder thats where they normally put it! :)

The equivelent would be 2 dessert spoons(heaped)

Why? What do you expect to gain from taking whey protein? have you worked out how many grams of protein you need daily and is your current diet deficient in protein which cannot be ingested from normal food?

Whey is a protein source, pure and simple. It is not a magic powder. It will do nothing that eating extra chicken, tuna, eggs, steak etc would not also do.

It is convenient. If there is a long period of time between the time you finish a workout and when you can take in food, then whey is good for filling that gap. If it is possible that you can eat a proper mean within 60-90 minutes of finishing your workout , then you probably don't need whey

Not really. It is as stated above not better or worse than protein from any other source

You should be sure that your entire eating plan is up to scratch before considereing supplements. As stated above supplements are meant to be used to fill gaps in a good eating stratergy. They should not be the main stay of your eating stratergy.

If you eating plan is up to scratch, then I don't see what is to be gained from chugging a shake before training. Also the amount to take will depend on the brand bought, how much protein is delivered per serving and the OP's daily protein requirements. Lastly, Personally I cannot stand a warm shake, so I would not be inclined to leave a mixed shake stand in my locker at room tempature while I workout.

    Quite possibly true.

The easy solution is to check on the tub/package to see what size a recommended serving is. Then using a desert spoon and scales measure out a serving. You only need to do this once to gauage a serving and from then on you simply use approimately the same amount.

I never said it was magic formula, it will help as an addition to his training.

If his diet is poor he will still see great gains from taking protein. Also if he is not eating tuna etc after his workouts he will notice noticable gains.

Just on this topic i use USN protein and on the tub it says 1 heaped scoop is = to 34g yet on the scoop itself it says 50g??? It also says that for every 34g you get 24g of protein, so how much am i actually taking? very confusing!

On a volume basis, the protein may be less than whatever was used when measuring the scoop size. Like 50g of waxy maize starch has a lower volume (or is it density??!) than 50g of protein so a 'full' scoop of each gives different weight.

If there's 24g of protein in 34g of product is 70%, which is quite poor. You'd want to be looking at 76-80% protein at minimum next time you buy :)

Interesting piece on another forum regarding the % protein on the product label and the actual % when tested, thought I may aswell post it here:

    Protein Test Results

Many brands claim to possess products with market leading levels of protein but when they are placed under greater scrutiny, they just don’t stack up.

This means that as the consumer, you may well be paying for something that you simply aren’t receiving. We understand that you don’t want to pay for a product that doesn’t deliver on its claims. In a similar vein Reflex feel passionately about providing a product that delivers what it claims. Indeed, we often deliver greater levels of protein than we claim.

The purpose of these tests will be to check Reflex products alongside leading competitors who claim market leading levels of protein.

The tests will be carried out by independent ISO accredited laboratories who have no connection or affiliation with Reflex. The results will be captured below with the original result certificates included in the form of pdf documents.

TBh, you've no idea how big his shaker is, or what product he got so this could easily be way off.

    OP follow the package amounts.
If his diet is poor he will still see great gains from taking protein. Also if he is not eating tuna etc after his workouts he will notice noticable gains.

A poor diet is still a poor diet with 50g extra of protein a day.
He won't see great gains if he ate an extra chicken breast

also make sure not to be taking too much protein in one go.After about 30 grams your body can't absord it so the rest will be pooped out:D.Make sure your protein intake is spread evenly enough throughout the day and try not take more than 30g in one go.It'l just save you a bitta money on powder in the long run.

Very easy to understand this when you see how much fillers etc. goes into it.
RxMuscle recently did a tour of the plant:

gant0 is speaking waffle. Your daily protein should be one gram per-pound bodyweight starting off anyway.

If going by "gant0's" lack of knowledge, a 240lb bodybuilder wanting to consume 1.5grams per-pound of bodyweight would need to eat every 2hrs for 24hrs never getting any sleep to consume the required 360 grams of protein @ 30grams a time.

You can take one scoop in the morning with breakfast, or before bed. But make sure you take a scoop straight after training, then eat a protein and carb filled meal no later then an hour later.

Yeah, thats what I find handy about the iPhone - you can set multiple alarms so that it goes of every 2 hours during the night so that you can wake up to get your 30 grams of protein. Before, I had to have 5 alarm clocks which took up a lot of space on my bedside cabinet. :D

Im still confused ha! what does the 50g on the scoop mean then, nothing?

any suggestions on what to go for next im nearly finished the tb i have anyway? I was thinking of swithing to ON Gold standard but seen an video on youtube where some guy who has his own supplement store talks about protein powders and pretty much says he wouldnt use it as its pretty low too? The whey isolate on MyProtein is about 90% and only €50 so im thinkin perhaps thats the next il get but it could taste like crap, and mix bad i dont know?

Absolute nonsense, using another real world example, A decent sized steak or piece of chicken has 70-90g of protein

or where you suggesting you should eat half your dinner then come back and finish it an hour later

The scoop is a measure of volume, it's stupid it having a weight printed on it.
A scoop of water will weight more than a scoop of whey, I'd assume that if the label says 1 scoop = 32g (or what ever it says) then thats accurate for the scoop included with the product

ON gold standard is one of the higher quality ones imo. Do you not think that guy might have his own agenda regarding supplements??
You can't compare with MyProtein Isolate as Gold standard is a blend not isolate. Personally I stick with ON as its the best available to me, I might use MyProtein if I was in Ireland
