A few years back the husband and I were in the local pub. We're Brits - we've lived here for a few years now (thanks for having us). Anyway - there we were with our (local) mates, having a good time, and this American guy, mid 60s, some kind of tweed hat on his head, comes in and we get to talking with him. Bear in mind this is a small country pub, full of locals - mostly farmer-types - no TV, no music, just chat, so you can hear other people's convos pretty clearly.

It comes up in the conversation that we are indeed Brits, and he asks - at full volume 'do the locals accept you, being British, and all?'. Surrounded by the aforementioned locals, with whom we've been chatting and laughing all evening, all I can manage is a sarcastic 'no, they can't stand us, but we bribe them with drink'.

His face was entertaining :) And no, we don't bribe them with drink, much ;)

Another thing I've just remembered - I recently watched Back to the Future 3 with the directors' commentary. In it they explained how good their dialogue coach was and that he made sure the Irish accents used in the film were very accurate, and could be pinpointed to a particular county.

They are the worst Irish accents I have ever heard, and don't seem to be from any county in Ireland I know.
