If Jedward Win The Eurovision

.. do you think it will kickstart the return of The Celtic Tiger in the way that Riverdance started the economic boom in Ireland by lifting our heads out of the quagmire & lifting our spirits high enough so that we achieved world greatness by creating a healthy economy and richness of mind?

I know people say it's only music, but sometimes music had the power to change the world.

I for one, hope the two boys make us proud - I really believe that their sheer positivity and sincerity can lift us out of this economic hole & help the country create jobs going forward.

If Jedward win we have to stage the eurovision.

Which costs about 40million I think.... so no, it wouldn't kickstart the economy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,543 ✭✭✭JerryHandbag

Wouldnt it be great if they both spontaneously combusted on stage. Ta-dahh!!!

The Europeans like crappy europop Jedwardian sort of stuff - they will most definately win (I'll be putting a bet on it).

Before heading out to the Eurovision contest, Jedward gave me details of their agenda and European fiscal policy. Those guys look stupid but they sure know their finance!

We're in safe hands.....rest easy Enda - Jedward will make the decisions Ireland needs to escape the ECB!

If they kissed each other during the act I'd almost guarantee them winning.

You do realise they're animatronic robots, right?
Why else do you think they only ever say random marketing buzzwords in no particular order in a strange Californian accent?

Best of luck to 'em, I say.

Chances are, the other countries involved aren't half as hard on their entrants as we are...

Yeah, they're slightly embarrassing, but the Eurovision is a bastion for misfits and weirdos anyway, isn't it? they'll fit in well enough.

Remember those Russian lesbians a couple of years ago, they wanted to go naked on stage and start kissing, etc.. (tATu I think they were called).

"All those things she said, all those things she said, running through my head, running through my head, running through my head."

    tAtU, you say.

    Nah. Never heard of them.

Considering their limited artistic talent, their tediously narrow vocabulary, and I have to figure out what they are actually saying about "lipstick",the lack of imagination displayed in tiresome video promos, I am not surprised that their rise to fame coincides with this country descending into a deep Depression

They've gone from 16/1 to 8/1 second favourites for the whole contest in a day OH.EM.GEE
I was tempted a few weeks back to put a few bob on at 25/1 but didn't...
Best of luck with the bet.

Maybe we could sell them after the show to restart the economy and get finan..... Nah

But we could threaten Europe with them.... 4 years busking in Brussels should do it. Louis Walsh could do the hat.

Only joined a couple of months ago, very very easy to use, you can back as normal, not all about laying, so you place your bet like you would do with any other bookie, they do take a small commission , but as you can see the odds on Jedward are much better.

They have the wherewithal to win.

I'm a firm believer that Jedward are second only to the California Raisins in the category of singing fruits.

I presume that somebody in RTE made the decision to enter Eurovision this year, but if they win, RTE will probably claim poverty and that they cannot afford to host it next year, knowing that the hotel trade in the Dublin area in particular(and tourist interests around the country), will lobby the government vigorously, urging the government to pick up the multi million Euro bill, which they would probably agree to do.

So I want to know now, before Saturday, is if Jedward were to win, can RTE afford to stage it next year(from their own budget) and if not, then RTE should make it clear in advance that they won't host it next year. The government has enough tax rises and spending cuts to make already, without having to find any extra to pay for a song contest next year.

    Negative 40 million.

Its curious though, that Jedward are now 5th favourites to win the second semi-final and yet are joint third favourites to win the contest overall

I'd say we'll be alright - if we win the IMF can stop any extravagant hosting, sure they stopped Hungary from just competing due to cost the year they were bailed out apparently. Well their PB's budget was slashed by 50% so..

NRK the Norwegian RTE spent over 23million pounds sterling last year and afaik recouped about a third of that - they even sold their rights to the World Cup to fund it!

Well one consolation if they win, they might bugger off to Europe like Linda Martin and Johnny Logan. Didnt see much of them when they won or Niamh Kavanagh! :D
