Do you believe because it is true, or because of eternal life? If it is the latter doesn't that say something about the motivations behind your belief?

Just correcting some very common misconceptions in your first post.

• Atheists can actually believe in an afterlife.
• Atheists can have a variety of different beliefs depending on the individual all that matters is that they don't believe in a deity.

Wow, thats a pretty sad first post. Something to think about before you start branding anyone a loser:

You'll spend your life praying and following some dark age rulebook in the hope that some "party" is waiting for you when you die. Your whole life will simply be year after year of acting like a good sheep and avoiding any ideas or experiences which might be taboo or unacceptable to your beliefs. When you do stop breathing and expire, instead of hitting the jazziest nightclub in existance, you'll simply be lowered into a cold wooden box in the ground, left there to decay into nothingness. Doesn't sound like a party does it? Death is the end of the story.

Very true; I think the point here is that atheism does not automatically rule out belief in something after death, although I suspect the vast majority of Western athiests don't believe in an afterlife.

A materialist will not believe in an afterlife; this does not mean that all who disbelieve in am afterlife are materialists (although, again, I suspect most Western athiests are.)

True very true, I believe that of you work hard provide for family raise your children in a good and honest way that that is what counts and not "bible bashing" your way through life trying to convert others. Look at how may wars were caused by the bible bashers of the world.........
