Gym membership expired a few months back and going to do a little at home now. Miss working out.

How much push ups would be advised to tone up?

cant tone up without reducing bf% or increasing ratio of muscle:fat......pushups will only build a few ares so you won't se much results without popr diet.

There are lots of great bodyweight exercises which you can do at home.

Apart from press-ups, good bodyweight exericises include chin-ups, lunges, prison squats, inverted rows and burpees. You'll find descriptions of each of these (and many more) if you have a quick look on YouTube.

You might also want to invest in a set of kettlebells in the future, but if you do, make sure to learn the proper exercise techniques before exercising with them.

Also, as the previous poster have already mentioned, the way you eat will largely determine how "toned" you become. As your diet reduces your body fat, the results of the press ups and other bodyweight exercises will become apparent.

    Best of luck!

    Paul

I took a break from weights about 6 months ago because I was travelling. I concentrated on the bodyweight exercises mentioned above and got great results. Done push-ups and explosive push ups, alternate push-ups with a football etc etc. Also check out handstand shoulder press. You can do pull-ups using a solid door as well as long as you keep your movements smooth. Do a search for 300 workout as well... there is a guy with vids on youtube that has a good routine which is weight free... you would just need to get a resistance band.

I'm doing pushups at home as a supplementary excercise to my normal routine (as well as incline situps).

I'm doing the http://hundredpushups.com/ program using the middle column. When I reach week 6 (currently on week 2), I'm going to drop back to week 3 and add weight to a backpack.

    ^ Harsh IMO.

    OP try this:

    40 pushups
    20 supermans
    20 situps

    rest

    10 pushups
    30 supermans
    30 situps
    10 side crunches

    rest

    30 pushups
    20 supermans
    20 situps

    rest

    20 pushups
    30 supermans
    30 situps

    finished

Do it daily, try not to rest until inbetween sets, half or quarter if you cant manage the whole thing

Also, as said above most important thing is diet.

just for clarity - the briann. a/c was being used to evade a site-ban of the johnn account. It's a big no-no on any forum here :)

In pushup position, raise one arm and the opposite leg. Voila, you look like superman in flight.

Some good ideas here. You could break the workout down and try and work up to doing the whole thing

Gonna give that 100 pushups thing a go ... Haven't done any strength training since last summer ... Serious lack of time available but should be able to squeeze that in ... Cheers for the tip
