Unfortunately, this post is not motoring related. In fact, I wish it was.

I can confirm that a long term member on here and a friend, Richard Molloy aka Maxdamage is no longer with us.

He was a really sound, genuine man who had a passion for classic motors.

    R.I.P. man.

May our thoughts be with his family and those closest.

It's very shocking. Without ever meeting the chap you'd get very accustomed to them and their humour etc on her. I'll really miss his posts and views.

Very sorry to hear this, especially at such a young age. Saw him post regularly on here. RIP

I meant to PM him last week, he had been asking about getting a key cut for a Ford Escort, I checked in the place next to where I work and found somewhere that does it.

Really sad to see somebody so young go.

    RIP

I got to know him through the car forums he was on. I was only speaking to him on the phone a week ago. He seemed in good form and didn't appear down or anything.
He drove down to my house here in Carlow a couple of times to collect parts for his cars. It always ended up us forgetting about time and chatting for ages over tea.

He was such an honest, decent lad.

    Very, very sad.

He really did, I actually had to ban him from here a few times, he certainly didn't hold back but there was never any malice in him and he always made me laugh. A good user who will be missed from these parts

A very young lad.... My thoughts and well wishes are with his family and close friends. Absolute tragic.

As others have said, have to admit never met or knew him personally, but just read his posts here on boards.ie... It's a strange thing how you imagine you 'know' people behind the anonymous users names.

To Richard: it seems a lot of people here regard you very highly; may you rest in peace.

It's a terrible loss for his friends and family, and also a loss for boards.ie's motoring sections, and for Everyfordireland where he was also a huge contributor, and to other sites he used, and clubs, organisations etc, he was always very active in things he got involved with. Had strong views and opinions but it made things interesting.
I didn't kwon him very well in person, but he'd been down to limerick to me before to get parts and we had good old chat. knew his personality and interests well on this and other forums

That's very sad. Recognised his name straight away.

Incredible how, even though I've never met the lad, it feels like you know the person based solely on their posts and this has genuinely had an effect on me, especially considering I'm around the same age.

He came off as quite a happy and witty character on these forums so I can only imagine he was a nice guy in person.

RIP Max_Damage, I'm sure you'll be missed by many.

To think only the other week I was browsing through his thousands of photos on Flickr.

If you like old or unusual/interesting cars, have a look on his Flickr site, you'd be lost for hours! It's a treasure trove of good stuff!

I loved the way he had scanned up brochures of the Ford Escort Mk3 and of course the K10 Micra.

Among the "extras" a 1981 Mk3 Escort L (which of course Max_Damage acquired not too long ago) had over the basic "Escort" model were
    - a five speed gearbox
    - front headrests
    - a heated rear window (yes, seriously)
    - carpet on the doors
    - a centre console (yes, seriously)
    and my favourite:
    - "additional sound insulation"

The GL model contained the following over the L:
    - additional warning lights
    - upgraded upholstry, including fabric headrests
    - four spoke (instead of two spoke) steering wheel
    - "styled" wheels

    Lastly the Ghias had
    - a sunroof
    - rev counter
    - fake wood
    - digital clock

If you bought a 1.3 (or a 1.6) Mk3 Escort over the 1.1 you got electronic (i.e. distributorless, remember this was back in the days when fuel injection was virtually non existant and of course the Escort had carbs) ignition and anti roll bars:eek:!

The brochures of the K10 Micra were equally intersting - a quartz clock and a trip meter counted as extras once upon a time believe it or not!

Like most people here, I never knew the guy, but I certainly enjoyed browsing through his flickr collection and his posts on here. You mightn't agree with everything he said but there was no denying he loved cars, and in an age where cars are becoming more and more similar, it is great that people are still able to think for themselves and not follow the sheep.

For that, Motors, and especially Classic Cars part, is poorer without him.

RIP and sympathies to all who knew him/his family.
