Is this available in Ireland yet ?

If so how do you set it up ?

Looking at there website says you need there broadband package ( in networked areas only mind you )

Looks the job and I hope they have it up and running in Ireland soon

Nope not yet, they rolled it out first to Sky Broadband customers in the UK, but they have said all Sky Customers will eventually be getting it. A Sky HD box is required though.

Well Now, Do you think there will be any chance we will get in on this action ?

    http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/30/sky-anytime-achieves-impossible-will-carry-iplayer-and-itv-pl/

This is the official press release :

Sky Anytime+ goes from strength to strength with more content and increased reach

BC iPlayer and ITV Player to join the service.
Sky Anytime+ available to more than 5 million homes at no extra cost by Easter 2012.

Sky has today announced a series of enhancements to its video on demand service, Sky Anytime+, which will expand the choice of programmes available for customers and make it available to millions of homes for the first time. The move follows strong growth for Sky Anytime+, which is already in more than a million Sky homes and has seen weekly usage increase by 80% in the three months to 31 December 2011.

The enhancements form part of Sky's commitment to bring more value to customers through their subscription. Sky Anytime+ comes at no extra charge and already provides access to a wide range of on-demand content including movies, entertainment, documentaries and drama 'box sets'. In addition to programmes from Sky's own channels, it offers access to content from partner channels such as MTV, Discovery, FX, History, Disney, UK TV and National Geographic Channel.

To expand the range of high-quality content available on Sky Anytime+, Sky has reached new agreements with the BBC and ITV.

This means that ITV archive content, including popular shows such as Prime Suspect, Lewis and Cold Feet, will join the service from tomorrow, accessible through the main Sky Anytime+ menu as well as a new dedicated ITV Player section. And later this year, customers will be able to use Sky Anytime+ to catch up on programmes from both the BBC and ITV when the BBC iPlayer joins the service and more programming is added to ITV Player.

Archive BBC content - including the likes of Doctor Who, Outnumbered and Top Gear - is already available on Sky Anytime+ through Sky's existing deal with UK TV.

And to help even more customers enjoy the service, Sky is extending the reach of Sky Anytime+ by making it available to all Sky+HD homes with an internet connection, across all broadband providers. This means more than 5 million homes will soon be able to access the comprehensive video on demand service. The extension of the service builds on the
1.2 million Sky Broadband homes that already use the service.

Is the data downloaded over your broadband? How would this work with your useage allowance? Same question with a Netflix?

Yes. It is downloaded over your broadband connection so if you have a low cap then it isn't something you could use too often.

I have Sky at the moment and I also use Netflix .

The idea of watching regular TV with 15 to 20 mins of ads an hour is getting old very fast.

UPC offer On Demand as do Netflix.

Sky has Sky Go that is a much lower bit rate and will not run using the Sky box.

Sky was way ahead of UPC with HD better software and channel choice and Sky Plus.

Sky have missed the boat as regards an On Demand service here in Ireland.

They have it in the UK so as usual we the Dumb Irish pay more and get left behind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭JDxtra

I challenge you to get UPC TV and if you don't fire the box out the window due to sheer frustration within a few days I'll be very surprised. Sky, for TV, still literally blows UPC out of the water.

Be patient. Sky will launch Sky Anytime+ here soon. For me, it certainly would not be a deal breaker in terms of choosing a TV service.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,318 ✭✭✭✭Menas

Sky rep told me that it would not be available in ireland for some time as the only supplier with a broadband service good enough to support it was a competitor (ie, UPC) so obviously Sky would do nothing to increase UPC's revenue thru increase BB subscriptions.

Sky go via a laptop connected to a TV is not amazing quality but very, very watchable and better than UPC on demand by a mile. Also using a laptop I can watch RTE Player, netflix and all others. UPC on demand is not as good as Netflix nor Sky go. The players via UPC on demand do not show all shows that can be watched via a laptop player.

In my opinion Sky box with laptop connected to TV and good internet is best solution.

UPC's box is a total pain and as already said will cause an ex Sky subscriber to throw it away in frustration. Their internet is world class if you happen to live in an area that is covered.

Regarding dumb Irish I think I get more channels and services than those in the UK can get.

Dam browser cache. Just refreshed and got the answers above. Thanks.

    My original question:

    I guess im missing something.
When I go to sky.com/anytimeplus it redirects to the Irish standard sky anytime details.
Ive got my sky+HD box on my network with access to the internet so do I need to activate something or is anytime+ not yet available in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,030 ✭✭✭zg3409

It is not available in Ireland via a Sky box. It is only available via a computer.

Sounds like Sky might be getting that bit closer, according to the Newstalk Technology slot on George Hook this evening, they're launching their own standalone version of Netflix tomorrow.

Not clear all the devices one can watch it on but if it really is like Netflix as in anytime+, I can't imagine why we shouldn't be able to enable our sky boxes in the republic to stream it too.

ah just found the press release for tomorrow

By the look of the press release it does but according to Newstalk this is being rolled out in Ireland tomorrow... they may be wrong but mentioned about 6.32pm this evening on air

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭neddynono

Actually yes. Just had a look through the nowtv twitter feed and it says it only available in the uk AND roi. Roll on tomorrow so till we see

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 341 ✭✭vampyre

They said anytime + was UK and ROI when it was launched to divert people from Netflix but Ireland turned out to be "at some point". Hopefully this will be different.

Anytime+ is not available in ROI

When A+ is going to be available.. the masses will be informed!

You dont think Sky are just going to drop something like this in under the radar do you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Silicon Republic are reporting that it is rolling out in Ireland "soon", so a launch in Ireland tomorrow (today) doesn't look promising. The lack of Euro pricing in their PR doesn't look promising either! Weird how the Android App is being released tomorrow too but the iOS is coming soon after, usually the other way around. Something that was dropped under the radar was the HD content (720p) from NowTV coming to the Xbox too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,757 ✭✭✭lawhec

Sky Anytime+ according to BSkyB needs a minimum download speed of 2Mbps, and that's just for SD content. HD demands faster still.

I'm not fully up to speed with the average broadband speeds, contention of services, popularity of different technologies etc. currently in the Republic but it sounds like that outside of UPC's DOCSIS provision it's hardly much better than 2-3 years ago. OTOH we're quite spoiled in comparison up north.

From the terms and conditions it definitely seems that way Muffler but from their press releases to Silicon Republic, Newstalk and even their PR guy on twitter saying that it was available in Eire, maybe their communications company has made a complete f-up.

Wouldn't be the first time for Sky though thought they had improved in the last few years.

No what I mean is they give you a drop-down menu to pick which country you're paying from, and the only options are the UK and Ireland. Thought it might be an indication.

Sounds like Muffler's full stop was premature and Newstalk et al knew what they were talking about yesterday, good to hear although it is a bit pricey.

Would prefer to add the movie package to my own sky and have anytime+ in a couple of months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

To be honest, you'd nearly be best subscribing to Sky Movies through your TV. It only works about €8 more expensive (they usually have some Summer offer on though this time of year) but you get more of an online catalogue of films, which you can download for offline viewing on your laptop and on your iOS/Android device.

I tried to signup for the free trial, but I used an O2 Money Card and I don't have the equivalent of £15 (works out at just over €19) on it so it wouldn't process.

Iwas just making enquiries about this today with the Sky guy in Liffey Valley, I was looking for the box set tabs
One thing I need to know and it didnt strike me when I was talking to him.

Will you require Sky Movies to watch the 'Box Set'? series?
I dont think I can go the wifi route as I only have 8gb download over a four week period, so will have to wait till this anytime+ comes to ROI

I aslo only have the old Sky+ box, so will I have to upgrade to the newer Sky+ HD boxes when anytime+ comes here?

By the way,he aslo said there was no info on when anytime+ coming to ROI. He certainly didnt give me the impression it was going to be anytime soon
