Zlatan - Sign him and Win.

Last night secured his eighth domestic league title in succession. His ninth in ten years.

He achieved the feat with 5 different clubs and took in 3 countries along the way, and at the worlds biggest clubs too.

He's a truly outstanding footballer and a joy to watch.

A line from today's Gazetta sums him up: "Serie A is a tournament in which various teams compete, and then at the end Zlatan Ibrahimovic wins."

Sign him for your team and then you win. Simple as that.

It's already been mentioned in his appreciation thread, no need to start another one for him.

When Levy starts paying £200,000 a week, I hope it is not to him

I disagree. I think this astonishing record is worthy of a mention in its own right.

Also, this puts Milan equal on 18 titles with ferocious rivals Inter. Bragging rights back to the black and red half of the city

What stage is bigger than Serie A or La Liga?

Is he 'overrated' because Dunphy said so or because no EPL club can afford him and he hasn't played in England?

Well, I'd love to have him because he does guarantee you 20+ goals a season but certainly not for €200,000-a-week, I wouldn't pay over €120,000-a-week for but he'd never take that.

    3.barca got rid of him

Because he quite clearly doesn't suit their style.

Fucking brilliant player, anybody who thinks otherwise was disappointed by him in Football Manager or something, because they certainly don't watch him play much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,998 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

I use to label him the youtube footballer...but Cristiano Ronaldo is a class footabller and I've seen 20 odd games were he didnt do a tap. Surely with Zlatans record he can't be as bad as I've seen him the few times I have?

Would love to see him at Arsenal, there isn't much better that would be available.

Do not forget to sign Van Bommell as well, 8 titles in the last 12 seasons in 4 countries

Similar to Tottenham, Arsenal would certainly not pay his wages. Would love to see how he does in the PL though, but only City and Chelsea would/could pay his wages.

He actually did, he just fell out with the management. I think they were a better team with more threats with him over Messi. He just had the falling out and everyone got on his back when he didn't score for a couple of games which wont happen with Villa because he's Spanish.

I suppose moving him on allowed Messi to be played more centrally but he was hardly doing bad cutting in from the right :D Zlatan's goal record is very good considering all the crap that went on in the 2nd half of the season.

    How much is he on?

Personally I don't feel any player is worth over 90k a week unless it's Messi.

They aren't even worth that obviously, but I'm taking even in inflated football terms. Torres is on around 175k after paying 50m.

Utterly ridiculous, might as well piss money away.

Apparently (according to one his threads on here) he was or is the second highest paid footballer in the world, so presumably over €200,000-a-week, which is just ridiculous for anyone.

Needs to do it on the big stage. El Classico, Milan derby, Derby d'italia, Champions League 1/4 finals and the European Championships dont count. He has to do it against an English team in the champions league that isnt Arsenal ;)

Certainly not worth half that. Meh, I'm not too bothered, give me Kevin Davies over Bendtner and I'll be a happy man...:pac:

You are clearly not up with the economics of football. C.Ronaldo is worth that just sitting on the bench, picking up jersey sales. Tevez is worth near 3 times that for dragging City into the champions league singlehandedly. Those are off the top of my head without delving into how much money players make their clubs.

Personally, I genuinely don't believe that anybody who watches him play reguarly could think he's anything but one of the best strikers in the world. I think most of the people who think he is overrated only watch him maybe 2 times a year at best.

But the opposite can be said too, do the people who spout superlatives about him and call him one of the greatest strikers in the world watch his every game? What is the requisite number of games to form an opinion on him? For me he has disappointed in every single game I've watched him. I'll freely admit I've seen him twice this year (at most) but have seen him at least 20-30 times in the past number of years and about the only thing I remember him doing was that great arrow of a goal he scored for Sweden in the last European Championship (iirc).

I'm sure he is a quality player but for me he has disappointed every time I've seen him.

I've seem most of Milan's games this season,
Ibra was outstanding up until xmas, Milan literally won I'd say 12 games that they would not have won if it wasn't for him, he was unplayable in the first half of the season.

In the second half of the season, his performance level dropped, we got 5 new signings and he started picking up a couple of red cards. That effected him a lot, but he is the main reason that we won the title this year, no doubts about that and I'm a Pato fan!

Check out this goal he scored V Leecs this year, its a 30 second clip, but its an awesome goal!

Is the permanent move to Milan all signed up already? Because if Tevez heads off to Italy I could see Mancini being interested. Cue a ream of "Wednesday nights away to Stoke" jokes.

But isn't it likely that the people who only watch him twice a year only watch him in the more important games? And a lot of these people would suggest he doesn't perform well in these games, so it certainly seems he doesn't perform as well when it really matters. I think it's then fair to say he's overrated as the best strikers in the world perform when it matters most.

I remember reading somewhere that City tried to sign him (before they got Dzeko), and he said he doesn't want to play for them.

I think this record is blown out of proportion tbh. It's impressive no doubt but look at the teams he won with:
Ajax - not much competition in that league even at that time, 2 maybe 3 horse race
Juventus - won it during the match fixing scandal
Barcelona - dominating even after he left
Inter - they won it the year before he came and the year after he left
Milan - Inter have been dog since Mourinho left and as a result there's only 1 team who were realistically going to win it

Now while the record is very impressive, credit where credit is due, it seems to me that he arrived at the right times rather than him playing out of his skin helping the team to win the league. He's a solid player but I don't think he's one of the best in the world, IMO. He's around that level but I don't rate him as highly as I'd rate Rooney, Torres, Drogba, Higuain, Tevez and other top strikers. He's only scored 20+ goals once in a season. He is good and not as bad as people who watch him in the Champions League once a year make him out to be. I just don't rate him as highly as the world's top strikers. Close but not quite.

He scored 4 in 7 in the champs league this year. Just because TV3 and RTE show a game, it doesnt make it more important to a game against other teams. They cover the populist games, not the big ones.

So you didn't watch him play Madrid in the league or Arsenal in the CL last season. You must watch him a lot then.

What? Surely I'm entitled to opinion? The Italian league is muck at the moment, he has consistently underperformed in big games, I've watched him for Sweden too and he's been nothing but underwhelming. From this I can't conclude he's one of the best in the world, I know the games I'm judging him on are a relatively small sample, but they are the more important games to judge a player's overall class. I do watch Serie A a bit as well and have seen him perform but never when the occasion was any bigger than a run of the mill league game.

Tbh, I imagine you're overstating how much you've seen him play, several example of him being class in big games have been given as well, just not examples of him beating teams on his own when playing for teams badly outclassed in the CL.

It's a bit like me saying your mom is ugly having only seen the back of her head from across a busy road once, obviously I'm entitled to my opinion, but since it's based on woefully inadequate information I'd be inclined to defer to your best friend who sees her every day and says she's a ride.

Messi was good in the world cup, just didn't manage to score plus he happened to score a stunning brace against Madrid in a recent semi final...?? Rooney has been excellent in any number of big games. You clearly don't see the point I'm trying to make if you're going to use daft comparisons like that.

Surely even the biggest admirers of Ibra can acknowledge that he's failed to produce performances in big games far more often than the times he's played well.

No it's more like concluding she's ugly when she's all dressed up for a big occasion and still doesn't look good.

He may be consistently good at a certain level but it's become more than apparent that when a step up in class is necessary he fails more often than he succeeds.
