So what do you steal? :pac:

I for one, like to steal all coffee and tea sachets. Come in handy later. Never stole a towel. Must do sometime. But I was tempted to steal a hotel key once. Not the one I was given but another one that was left under the bed for some strange reason. (well, not so strange i guess. Person misplaced key underbed)

    So what have you stolen?

I stole the right for the people in the next room to have a nice nights sleep when I was banging the missus and her head was knocking off the headboard.

They have class robes in hotels, must get one soon :P . But my GF once stole the shower cap as she said it would be handy. Once stole a sewing set that was fairly good for the mother :P nothing major though

Take all the tea and coffee etc, and if I have room in my bag, one of the towels and one of the pillows. You can't take em all, that's too obvious. :D

Dunno why but I always nick the shower caps for some reason I find them funny. Have a nice little collection from over the years, still in the little boxes, never been used.

Nah, if you take all, it's dead obvious that you did it. Take one, the cleaners assume it was never there in the first place.

Was wondering what they where. Almost burst me ear drum trying to clean me ears with a tampon

I know someone who goes to a hotel in Clonmel for an annual event - every time he removes the (very nice) dressing gown and replaces it with the one he took the year before. Not stealing in his opinion, just an extended borrowing system.

Why do some many people consider taking the following items as stealing???? coffee and tea sachets, sewing kits, shoe shine pads, toiletries i.e. shower cap, shampoo, soap etc These are all complimentary.

Hotel's will now charge your credit card if you take the bathrobe, slippers or any other item. So that is technically a purchase.

If you request them they're in all hotels.. unless you're staying in some 'roach motel like the travel lodge.. in which case you can clean your ears with the curtains.. if you dare :pac:

Did you fit it in your case?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

i worked in a hotel once, in the kitchen and one day I passed this guy in work overalls carrying a microwave oven out of the hotel, later in the day I saw him again carrying another Microwave, at the time I assumed he was a repairman.

At a staff meeting the following day we were informed that 3 microwaves had been stolen from the kitchen the previous day. :D

Tea, coffee, sugar, etc, these are all consumables. Gets factored into the budget for the rooms. Other stuff is theft. Or you get charged.

    Things I have seen nicked:
    Towels.
    Bedclothes.
    Tv.
Mattress. Why the **** anyone wants this, I don't know.
    Coffee machine.
    Tea pots.
    Teaspoons.
    Minibar items.
    The actual minibar.
    A grand piano.
    Cigarette machine.
    Dvds.
    Giant chess pieces.

    to add to this list
    - a bin with the hotel brand-name on it
    - tv, yes somebody took a tv
    - bedroom curtains
    - tv remotes seem common also

Most hotels would charge the cards used when making booking online or over the phone if theft has occurred. Some people forget that fact when they think they are getting one up on the hotels :D

I once refused to pay a hooker in a hotel room, does that count?

Such things as shampoo, shower caps, tampons, tissues etc are factored into the cost of selling a room for any given night so you can take or leave them as you please. I'll do it if I stay in a big 5 star property, but don't see the point otherwise.

However, people taking dressing gowns, towels and any other linen are basically stealing. Chances are the hotel uses contract hire for their linen, and anything not returned must be paid for by the hotel. Some people see nothing wrong with taking as they please because maybe they're staying in a multinational like Hilton etc and "Paris can afford it". At the end of the day, each hotel operates on its own to a certain degree and has to make budget or heads will roll..and it won't be Paris or those at the top. It'll be those of us who work back to back twelve hour shifts to keep the place going and take dogs bollox abuse from joe bloggs on a daily basis.

I know you might say "ah its only a fookin pillow/towel etc" but the amount of times we have missed budget by a few bob has been unreal because expenditure has increased with people stealing things like salt and pepper mills from the restaurant tables!

    - Just a thought from one of the people you 'borrow' from.

Ive never stolen anything out of a hotel. I already own a perfectly good set of towels.

Youre SUPPOSED to put it on an extension lead. Turn the volume up full and chuck it through the window.

No, because you paid him in the hallway instead.

i always take a nice big bath towel when staying in hotels and the last time there was a sign informing us of said chip but chanced it anyway and nothing happened.i would say just a scare tactic.:) The best way to get a nice robe is to use the spa in the hotel just wear one from the spa back to the room.

You do know that the value of those things in hotels is worthless? It's not like we can sell someones used electric razor.

The charger might come in handy, if someone is looking for one, but chances are, they won't.

Or take them from the trolley when the cleaners are cleaning the rooms.

I can remember attending the Fir Bolg bike rally at Whites Castle Lisdoonvarna, as a precautionm management would move everything worth taking from all the rooms including TV sets, cutlery and anything else that could walk. We were still charged the same rate for the rooms. :p

Anything with a brand name seems to be common.

I actually watched someone attempt to steal the mattress. From a 2nd floor room. Myself and the security guard were having a smoke, and watched them lower it out through the window using the sheets (ripped up) down onto their car roof. Man, they got a shock when the carpark barrierst open for them, and the Five-O pulled up in front of them.

Would you walk through Dunnes taking things off trolleys, and stuffing them up your shirt?

Nothing, absolutely nothing surprises me about what people think they can get away with. Some people don't seem to factor in that their are cameras around, and everyone in and out of hotels have eyes and ears and don't hesitate in passing on information either, some even by phone after check-out :) thankfully.
