    :D

Its a winnable fight for Andy even though its not on home soil. Rees is better than people give him credit for. He didnt win prizefighter, the British title and hold Amir Kahns WBA title not so long ago for nothing.
Andys last performance wont exactly make him odds on favourite but hopefully that will stand to him come fight night.

Frampton on the under card as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,986 ✭✭✭Spazdarn

Excited about Frampton as a prospect, Andy should win this fight fairly comprehensively.

You think? I see Rees as the heavy favourite.

Definitely a winable fight. Rees if anything has too much credit. Winning prizefighter is no accomplishment and lost title in his 1st defence. He's a high stamina, busy fighter and would not beat any boxer with a good skill set - it will be a fight to see how good Murray is? Personally I think he will win this fight and that will be his top achievment as he will not go onto world level

this might be a slightly off topic question but there was something written in the Irish Sun last saturday about andy murray who is training in connemara.
It was just a snippet but it said ,and im paraphrasing, "lets hope he andy doesnt use the connemara fighting skills and bring a knife to the ring with him".
If anybody could clarify this, that would be great. Have to say i was taken back when it was mentioned to me but couldnt find anything online about it

Reading that it all looks a little over the top and disproportionate to be honest.

No one can accuse me of trying to put down Ros Muc, in fact only this week I made a video about Sean Mannion and put it on YouTube.

But it just looks like a couple of people taking a small comment out of context. Comes across as being massively over sensitive.

Just read today's Irish Sun and the apology on it. Very well written and explained. I except the apology, I would urge everyone to do the same.

I wish Kevin all the best and hope that the matter is over. Good luck the Andy in his fight.

This fight is live on Sky sports 10:30 I see. They had an interview on Sky Sports News earlier with Gavin Rees his opponent, he seemed to be getting all the attention and looking forward to World title bid after it.

Lets hope Andy can take him off guard! Be great for Irish boxing. C'mon Andy....:D

andy murray is a good fighter with good skillz ... gavin ree's will walk through punches to throw one... if a good technical fighter faces ree's ... ree's will lose because he doesnt know how to counteract a good boxer fighting off the back foot and peppering him with counters.... his face was a complete mess against andreas kotelnik a few years ago when kotelnik beat him for his wba title and you woudlnt call kotelnik in the elite of world fighters even though he is solid...

Ree's was out on his feet after about the 4th round if i can remember correct but he has a big big heart and lots of determination... i think he could of even perferated his ear drum in that fight in and around round 6 and he fought on bravely... he has plenty of guts, gets busy and can take punishment but can andy murray dish it out... anytime ive seen murray he always seems a bit off the pace and could do more... no doubting murray has the talent but this will be a test for him but one i think he has the chance of winning. best of luck to andy...i hope he does win.

That was at Light welter thought. Rees is back at his more natural Lightweight now and looking good for it.

Anyway, Murray, frampton and O'Kane are all weighed in now.

I fear that Rees will be too skillful for Murray and win on points, i'd love to be proved wrong.

Results as they happen from the undercard will be on my twitter page. Just arriving in Cardiff now.

Fear for him though it will be tough if it goes to the judges, most judges are homers in boxing these days....:(

Holding his own so far. C'mon Andy.

Commentary is really biased towards Rees or is it just me?

    Andy lookin very ponderous here.

    afraid to let things go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Seillejet

Agreed but I suppose it is a little better than watching the usual Murray fight with Mgee and Davy Boy doing the commentary. "He has to be careful there now really careful from Davy boy continously"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭themandan6611

he keeps landing short for a reason, he's afraid to commit and thats bad for a boxer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,415 ✭✭✭Lord Trollington

Andy looks very slow. He's throwing punches that aren't reaching the target despite his superior reach.

He's going to be beaten, no doubt.

Its shocking how many he has thrown and there not even reaching the gloves

Yep, Rees has a massive speed advantage. Andy is landing some shots but Rees is returning them all with about 2 more for good measure. Cant see anything but a rees win here even at this early stage unless Murray has a serious change in store for the second half of the fight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,415 ✭✭✭Lord Trollington

I dont think i've ever seen a slow a puncher....

Rees is not even bothering with a defence any more. He can bang too. All I can see is more punishment for Murray. He is taking some real heavy hits.

As poor a performance as I've seen in a while, there looks to be nothing behind them punches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Andy is doing a good job

of making Rees look like Pacquiao

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭bellybuster12

its all fairly standard tbh. murray not in the fight cos he is not good enough, rees is no world beater either. good for andy to finally be in with some decent company, he will learn more in this half hour than all of his other fights put together. just hope he makes it to the final bell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,415 ✭✭✭Lord Trollington

Andrew looks very amateurish to be fair.constantly walking in straight lines thowing straight jabs, no combinations . landing maybe 1 in every 8 punches, very often hitting thin air.

Shocking thing about his performance is that he has not changed his style or approach whatsoever.

    No aggression whatsoever.

    A better round from Murray

Is Froch on this channel later on lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,415 ✭✭✭Lord Trollington

andy had him against the rope under a little pressure and he steps back from him instead of pounding him with combinations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭bellybuster12

lol at rees if he folds here!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Seillejet

Where did that come from. Are we looking at a Marky Mark Micky Ward situation??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Jesus. Rees really looks shot:eek: If Murray wins this...... I cant even think what to say

Murray is clearly the fitter. Rees is hanging on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Aah tbh Rees is going to survive this. Andy hasnt got the nous to stop him holding or the power to knock him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

What time roughly is Froch scheduled to be in the ring?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Wasn't there a point off earlier for holding? Love how he's done more since and nothing done about it.
