    Very funny... :D

I was thinking about downloading this file from xda and save on SD card and try to load using bootloader but I don't really know how...

The HTC updates are often released regionally. Try going outside so you have good gps coverage & then look for the update. Some people don't believe this, but it has worked for me on past HTC phones.

Nothing from 3 yet, emailed them there asking what the story is with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,673 ✭✭✭s_carnage

When you say branded I assume ye mean that if I have the 3 start up screen at the start it is branded? I'm with 3 and have this screen anytime I start the phone.

It would probably be a good while before it is rolled out to branded phones I guess.

Nah, there's a post on the last page of the xda thread saying that HTC have suspended the update until the 8th, pending an investigation.

    o2 unbranded, nothing yet

This is strange, so many people are getting this update in different countries and we need to wait, is this servers overload related? What would be the other reason? I'm just wondering...

Guys, was really interested in getting a HD but had the following experiences today. Sorry for hijacking, but is the phone really as bad as this....

Hit the shops today to see if there were any around.

Meteor has the HD on the cover of its current mag "OMG - Desire HD -smart fast and goodlooking" - their take on it was "the HD is so buggy its dangerous and was recalled - buy a Galaxy S"
A bit weird, problems must have only developed since they published the mag eh? "OMG - Desire HD - smart fast and EATS BABIES" doesn't have the same ring to it I suppose.

Thought I'd go for a second opinion:
Carphone Warehouse "the HD was very buggy and was recalled - buy a Galaxy S, everyones doing it"

Vodafone "A Desire HD?" (Staff look at each other with a kind of God-bless-him-he's-abit-simple look) "How about a Galaxy S?"

As the Desire S is pretty much the same phone, I presume that it is also a steaming pile of dung, and the Galaxy S is officially the "be all and end all"?

the minute i got mine i put 3.3.3 rom on it immediately, no issues, 4 months....

didn't wait around, didn't piss and moan.

Half the people in mobile stores are barely user level themselves,

quick test is to ask them

can you show me the bootloader on the phone,
if they look at you funny, then they don't know ****

if your a power user ( ie know your **** ) i couldn't recommend enough!

Spend five minutes reading the Galaxy & Desire HD forums here and make your own mind up.

As a Desire HD user I love mine and there are little negative posts here about that model. You can root it if you want but you don't need to.

Maybe the stock levels are getting low of Desire HDs in Ireland. I used to work in sales a loooong time ago. Unless it's changed since then sales people will try and sell what makes them the most money or what they have loads of stock of. If that's not the best device then that doesn't really matter (to them).

Is your only source of information on the devices from the Meteor / Carphone Warehouse / Vodafone reps? Have you read the reviews and threads here. I'd go into comparing the devices but this isn't the thread for it and it's been done loads on Boards anyway.

Meteor are knobs. They cant handle phones like HTC because they require higher demands on support, as most people are basic users, e.g. Put round peg in round hole... anything beyond this requires support and Meteor, Vodafone dont want it, so they go around telling everyone it's really baaad and you shouldn't have one. But we do have this Tonka Toy Galaxy S for you......My friend has a Desire HD and the whole concept of it being used strongly with Google servers/accounts, emails, contacts etc mind f**ks him. Desire HD or any Android phones are complicated for the average user and will immediately report ''this phone is ****!'' when it is actually the best device you can buy.

Anyway, I wanna know what the difference is between 'Branded' phones on contracts and 'Unbranded' phones with any sim in getting updates.... Doesn't the phone find updates regardless of wether it has a sim in it or not?

Well, looking at the phone in-store was gonna be my only source of looking at it and playing with it:o I likes to test drive before I sign up for 18months:o

Downloaded it tonight - Vodafone branded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭DHFrame

I'm not sure about the previous guys point about the Samsung being simpler. The Samsung needs Kids (google it). That complicates the phone loads. Other than that they're both Android so similar enough.

Was pointing out what the people behind the desk were saying to people highlighting the fact the lack of knowledge they have about one device from another. I have heard staff in 3 stores telling people galaxy is easier to use when its the same OS Android.

First I heard about that. Got mine the week they came out and never had any problems. I stuck a different rom on it not long after I got it just for the craic.

Still not updating for me. All this messing about is really aggrivating. Why can't it be like Apple. Announce, plugin, get it. Feel like a cast system is going on which is not nice.

Just got this reply from HTC. Unlocked, unbounded, meteor sin.

Dear Dan ******, Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your mobile phone HTC Desire HD. I understand that you wish to know about the release of the new android version 2.3 The release has recently started and your phone is also in the list, the update will continue tomorrow after 2 days stop. Please wait for the notification message which will arrive soon to you.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,002 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

How are these releases pushed out? It seems those on later builds are getting them first.
My own build, like some above, is 1.72.405.3 with no update wherea 1.75+ have the update.
Do HTC decide the order? Will everyone get the update or only some? Or does Vodafone have a say?
