then look no further than the decision to award Rangers FC the 'Family Club of the Year.'

Not too much of a surprise given that the SPL ignored their sectarian signing policy for years. Nor is it a surprise that they've been investigated FIVE times in the last few years for racist and sectarian singing whilst the SPL and SFA have completely ignored their actions.

What family would want to bring their kids to the hatefest that is Ibrox which will teach their kids such lyrics as "Up to our knees in Fenian blood, surrender or you'll die" or "**** the Pope and the Vatican" or subject them to the racist overtones in telling an entire ethnic minority to go home?

But I suppose that's what happens when you're part of 'The Establishment' as The Rangers are.

And OP who do you think should have won it?

You might try and claim that this would explain the motivation for this post but it doesn't invalidate the points in it.

In the year they got hammered by UEFA for racist singing and their fans are implicated in trying to kill Neil Lennon with a bomb, it does seem a little bit odd. In fact, it seems like the SFA are going out of their way to help their damaged brand.

    As for winners, Hamilton.

Crap where has it been officially said that these terrible acts have been carried out by Rangers fans and if they are caught and claim to be supporters of the club then it will be stated "Not in our name" as these people are scum and in no way Gers fans

What about the 'minority' of singers all your supporters clubs today issued a condemnation of?

Be honest, do The Rangers deserve this accolade after what you will admit has been an appalling year off the field for them?

To be honest no but to start all this crap again when those RSC's came out and made that statement smacks of sour grapes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,472 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

It's not trolling. It's simply the truth, someone mentioned bombs and racist singing which started the hate.

I don't see why this unconstructive 'conversation' couldn't be had in the Rangers Superthread with the other unconstructive conversations about what a man's legal name is etc...

I'll just leave now before I pick up a yellow card for something pointless.

I don't think the OP gives a rashers about winning it.

He is questioning the Rangers fans winning an award after their recent behaviour

It was the Establishment. Rumour has it the Establishment had a meeting with the Orange Order and decided to give it to Rangers. Apparently they have bribed a ref for the next SPL game at Ibrox.

    Exciting times ahead.

I didn't even know that existed.

But it just goes to show how deep the Establishment runs, they probably even made that award up themselves.

I don't think its so much jealousy as it is disbelief. It would be akin to Nigel De Jong receiving a fair play award

    It is incredible.

The current extended degeneration of relations between the Old Firm clubs has run parallel to the degeneration in the quality and relevance of Scottish Football.

It was never great but when Scottish football was at a reasonably high ebb in the noughties this sort of degeneration in relations was not nearly as publicised.

Rubbish. There was a murder a derby in the noughties.

While I dont doubt that mindless thugs on both sides have ended the lives of fans, I cannot imagine that 30 murders occurred.

But I suppose that's what happens when you're part of 'The Establishment' as The Rangers are.

Taken from the football league's similar award
One of the most important challenges facing Football League clubs is getting the next generation of fans into their grounds. The League's 'Fans of the Future, supported by E.ON' initiative has sought to encourage more young fans and families into grounds by offering free or heavily discounted tickets to kids.

Additionally, each season, teams of mystery shoppers visit all League clubs to judge whether they are offering an outstanding family experience. With those that are being recognised with The Football League's Family Excellence Award.

These clubs are then considered for the prestigious Family Club of the Year award.

So no-one gives a sh1t about chants and nailbombs from a crazy minority. It's about which clubs offers the most to families of supporters.

A quick Google finds things like this
FAMILY SECTION PARTY AT RANGERS v HEARTS
    - DJ, games and signed prizes from 10.45am until kick-off
    - Meet Broxi from 10.45am-11.45am

So if you're a Rangers suporter, you're actively encouraged to include your whole family into the experience. It doesn't matter at all if you approve or want to bring your family there, it's for Rangers supporters.

So it's quite possible that Rangers deserve this award but you haven't bothered to consider that.

Is there a link anywhere that details when the award was made and what criteria were used in making the decision?

Yeah, a link would be good.
I don't see anything on the Rangers website about it (you'd think they'd be proud and have it near the front) and google doesn't seem to know anything about this award either.

I am however shocked and amused by who they've awarded it to. Family club of the year? FFS you couldn't make this up.

    This partly answers the above.
    http://www.scotprem.com/content/default.asp?page=s2&newsid=9304&back=home
Its a link to how StMirren won it last year (still can't find this years winners though) - seems they send in sets of families undercover into each ground with the purpose of marking each club on various family criteria.

So not exactly a gang of corrupt old Masonics awarding it to Rangers from their leather chairs in the Lodge then.

If they do offer more encouragement to families, then according to the criteria they deserve it

The attendance of families at the ground though should also serve to re-enforce the effort to eliminate sectarian chanting from football, so as not to bring up another generation in a culture where sectarianism is considered acceptable
