FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid - Champions League Semi Final 2nd Leg (2-0 agg)

UEFA are so concerned with the upcoming match between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou that they've dispatched Pierluigi Collina to oversee the match. Collina, now retired, is widely regarded as the finest referee in recent history, and he'll be keeping a close eye on proceedings in what's sure to be an extremely contentious game.
Barcelona, of course, hold a 2-0 aggregate lead over Real Madrid, but their behaviour at the Santiago Bernabeu has been widely condemned. and although UEFA laughed off a formal protest by Jose Mourinho's side regarding the performance of referee Wolfgang Stark, they're sending their best match officials to oversee the tie. Unfortunately for Mourinho and company, that means that Dutch referee Frank de Bleeckere, who was conned by Sergio Busquets last year into dismissing Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta at the Camp Nou and thus found himself on the Special One's refereeing 'blacklist'.

    Likely lineups:
Barcelona: Victor Valdes; Dani Alves, Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano, Maxwell (or Carles Puyol); Sergio Busquets, Xavi (capt), Seydou Keita; Lionel Messi, David Villa, Andres Iniesta

Real Madrid: Iker Casillas (capt); Alvaro Arbeloa, Raul Albiol, Ricardo Carvalho, Marcelo; Lassana Diarra, Xabi Alonso; Angel Di Maria, Mesut Ozil, Cristiano Ronaldo; Emmanuel Adebayor (or Karim Benzema)

Mourinho is banned from the touchline

Can Madrid overcome Barca at the Nou Camp?

I really hope this is a good game of football without all the theatrics and fouling of last weeks.

Don't care, won't be watching. A bunch of youknowwhats. If they could both somehow get thrown out and Utd given the trophy if they win tomorrow I'd be happy.

    Oh wait........

    Couldn't agree more.

On a side note, what's the point in making a superthread for the four matches if people are going to make match threads for them anyway, completely pointless.

Yeah, last week's match threads were confusing. Can this be merged into the superthread?

If Madrid scored early it could actually be a cracker.

After last week though anything could happen in this...

I expect lots of goals, RM have nothing to gain by sitting back.

    3-0 Real Madrid.

    :pac:

On a positive note, good to see Abidal back in the squad!

I'd like to see Madrid get a goal in the first half, keep things interesting for us neutrals. Hopefully it will be a good game of football, and not a brawl. Also hope they don't all act like they're at a swimming pool either.

Edit: Apparently Mourinho will be going for Adebayor ahead of Benzema.

Once more a match full of diving, harassing the ref and basically cheating, not sure can I watch that abomination again

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,117 ✭✭✭✭Leiva

Just hope Jose gets rid of the shackles from his players and goes for it .

That way we could have a high scoring game .

It basically comes down to how Mourinho decides to play it. Does he decide that they are out so its time to play the conspiracy theory victimhood card to save his job or go out and try and win to save his job?

I wouldn't be surprised if either happened.

Barca to win 1-0 and get kicked off the park.

Who could miss the final if they get booked for Barca? Please say Busquets

Could be wrong, but I think it's only masch and alves that could miss the final... i'd be happy to see alves miss it tbh.

The quicker this match is over the better it is for football imo.
Will watch it for the first 10 or so minutes and if I see the same **** I saw last week it will be turned off right away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

Can't say I've much interest in this at all.

Barcelona will control the game and win by two goals, both sets of players will be an embarrassment to themselves and the game, Busquets will get shot at least twice and the commentators will jizz themselves for the full 90 minutes regardless of the standard.

It's been a while since I'd rather work than watch a football match, but after last weeks antics I think I'm done with Spanish football.

2 ways this game can go. Madrid come out fighting and score an early goal, making this a competitive entertaining match. Second way is Barcelona dominate posession and it becomes a bad-tempered ugly spectacle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,092 ✭✭✭Le King

Lots and lots of red cards I hope. Leaving only Arbeloa and Keita on the pitch to fight it out for Champions Leaguemania I.

My prediction is Keita win the pinfall.

Pedro, Busquets and Di Maria will fight it out for the Womens Championship.

Hope they all tear each other apart, literally, they deserve it.

Word is Special one, 2, 3, 4, 5! not attending the match apparently - will stay back in the team hotel.

    Security concerns I believe.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭cm2000

Would love to see Ronaldo, Kaka, Di Maria and Ozil on the pitch at the same time going for it.

Prediction however, 1-0 Barce, boring game.

To be honest if Alves missed this final, I'd nearly have to feel sorry for him missing two finals in 3 years.....

Hopefully Busquets gets sent off and misses the final. An early Madrid goal would makes things interesting but I can't see it happening. Then again, stranger things have happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,624 ✭✭✭double GG

Surely Real Madrid will start with a striker tonight? Adebayor, Higuain, Benzema?

Can you stop calling him that, it's seriously annoying and childish.

I must be one of very few people looking forward to this so.

Madrid will need to go for an early goal so it should make things interesting, that should play into Barca's hands though, I'll be putting a few euro on Barca -1. But a goal for Madrid in the 1st half could really rattle Barca.

Hopefully we won't see the same theatrics as last week. No Pepe and Ramos means Madrid are missing a couple players to kick lumps out of Messi, though I'm sure Arbeloa will do his best to make up for them not playing.

If Alves misses it, that'd be his 2nd time getting to the final and missing it!

I think a Barça player can only miss the final if they receive a direct red.

So if a Barca player gets two yellows and gets sent off tonight they get to play in the final?

Jaysus, I'm starting to buy into these Mourinho conspiracies.

I don't know why Puyol keeps celebrating if he scored against Real Madrid or goes over the top celebrating if Barca win.

He won a World Cup with Spain, he would never win one with "The Catalan Football side". He should be quiet and sleep in his bed. He should be glad for his World Cup medal.

If you'd asked me 12 months ago who I'd be cheering for in this match it would be Barca without doubt. Since then theyve managed to annoy me so much that I'd love to see Madrid go through.

Not gonna happen though. Tie is over unless Barca have a some sort of monumental collapse.

The sadistic side of me hopes for more of the same antics from last week just to highlight more what a disgrace Barca were last week and to a lesser extent Madrid.

It's just that Puyol always tries to stand out when he plays Real Madrid. A couple of seasons ago he scored against Real Madrid, he took off his armband, kissed it and looked up at the Barcelona side. Or if a Barcelona players scored goes over the top celebrating.

Higuain has to start - Benzema is a donkey. Maybe it's academic - Real will not win by two goals at Camp Nou unless a Barcelona player is dumb enough to get himself sent off.

Barça won the Clásico in November 2009 playing with 10 players for the last half an hour.

Real would need 3 Barcelona players sent off before they could get anymore than 40% possession, never mind actually scoring.
