Guess I'm a WEST BRIT

My great grandfather fought with the British in WWI.

My best mate is living in London, and loving it.

I enjoyed the royal wedding, and was delighted Wills wore the tunic of an Irish Guards officer.

And I'm really not offended by her majesty The Queen visiting us.

Just in case anyone wondered about my avatar.

    Meh,

I couldn't give a toss if the queen comes to visit or not - they should bring her down georges street, plenty of other queens there for her to play with:)
But, no, the union jack thing is a step too far for me. I won't even wear rebok runners cos they have that poncy little union jack flag on them. Horses for courses i suppose

I just wish they'd get rid of the Irish regiments, seeing as we are no longer a part of their empire.

Will you have the stars and stripes flying when Barry O Bama visits, or how about the french or german flags when the imf or ecb visit.
Or is it, as someone pointed out, just a load of posturing cos you're a big fella who likes to remind people how he can look after himself?

Some relative of mine fought in WW1 for the British too.

My great aunt took part in the 1916 rising and was a member of the Old IRA.

Caught bits of the wedding, they all had lovely bottoms.

The Queen visiting will be great for tourism, hope it goes off without a hitch.

The UK are our biggest trading partners, anything that improves the relationship between the two is welcomed IMO.

    I can't see avatars! :P

    God Save The Queen!

Fair play OP. I'm 100% Irish and fully aware of our past but we can't live in it forever. My wife is from Lincolnshire in the UK so I'm well associated with England and have friends in London too (fantastic city).

England and Ireland are FAR more intertwined than people think, the amount of people like me (Irish and English partners) and living in Ireland or England is huge.

I've no problem with the Queen coming! Just wish some people could see the major positives of her coming.
