Right, so i recently started going to the gym after a rather long hiatus. At the moment my fitness level is pretty low and i told them as such so they started me off with small programe to help me up my fitness level. This was all grand and i started on the treadmill (the instructor had told me to do a 20 min power walk) but i got a bit adventurous and started running a bit too. However i found that i was getting terrible pains in my shins and calves, but mostly shins. Like a tightness of the muscle but a very intense painful tightness and it made it quite difficult to run.
What i want to know is, is this just my muscles being out of shape and i need to spend more time building them up? Or is it something else? Can i do something to ease it or help it or stretch it?

It could be shin splints, but as nobody on this forum is of the position to suggest medical/injury advice or diagnose people, I suggest you go to a physio.
