Barcelona could take a lot out of that video.

Definitely deliberate, have a feeling the Referee planned it. Look at his smile at the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Christ there's a bit of acceleration there alright, fair play to her though she took it well.

    See what I did there!!

He has a little bolt of energy just as he was slowing down and takes her out.:pac:

Holy sh!t, anybody reckon anything will happen over it??

    Clearly deliberate.

im sorry but thats deliberate and nasty .

What a di*k. Where the hell is the respect? Yes we have all our had chuckles about Sian and being a woman etc. But for god sake this is plain disgraceful, It looks intentional.

He didn't even go to check if she was okay. I don't care who the assistant referee is man, woman or alien, the least he could have done was helped her up.

I don't care what anyone says Kevin McNaughton has now entered the 'big ku*t' category of footballers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,860 ✭✭✭Julez

Couldn't believe he didn't ask if she was ok. If I was playing a match and I accidentally went into another player, let alone an official, or a female official at that, I would ask if they were ok and apologise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,529 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Dani Alves should defo take a look at this.

She did well to get straight back up and continue on as if nothing happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 811 ✭✭✭mal1

Absolute scum. He changed direction in order to knock her over. Although fair play to her for laughing it off and getting on with it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,092 ✭✭✭Le King

He's heading towards the advertising boards at 0:04 then regains his balance and changes direction towards Sian Massey. Pretty shameful tbf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

100% deliberate, scum bag of the highest order. Hope the FA sort him out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

Fair play to her good to see shes still going and not letting any of that sexist **** get in her way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

No question about whether that was deliberate or not. Scumbag. Hope he's done. Fair play to her for laughing it off but I bet she laughs harder when he's slapped with a fine or ban.

He kept the ball in play, he was trying to retrieve it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,778 ✭✭✭Pauleta

Even if it wasnt intentional, he is still a prick. If you knock somebody over normal people usually ask are they ok or say sorry. I absolutly hate when i see footballers do that. They know exactly what has happened and have zero common decency to even laugh it off and give at least a thumbs up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,117 ✭✭✭✭Leiva

Ah fook what i wouldnt do to be in a 50/50 with him right now ...Coward piece of shiit .

Defo deliberate - nothing short of shameful IMHO and not to go over and see was she ok just adds to the deliberateness, if it was an accident he would have asked was she ok.
That's the kind of player who deserves any footballing misfortunes that comes his way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,814 ✭✭✭✭JPA

I thought this was going to be a different video entirely...

Definatelt deliberate, the change of direction and acceleration proves it.

The amount of footballers who should hang their head in shame after seeing a lineswoman taking a hit like that and laughing. Not rolling round on the floor like they're had a limb removed with a rusty saw blade.

Yeah, well spotted. That sorts that out. Still should have apologised mind.

Jaysus, the mock moral outrage here is funny.
Everyone should ring Joe Duffy first thing tomorrow!
He was clearly trying to retrieve the ball IMO.

I'm not entirely sure he didn't mean it, but he did keep the ball in play and was entitled to that change of direction to retrieve it.

    Agreed regarding an apology.

I'd be inclined to think this as well. Severely doubt it was intentional. That said he should have asked was she alright

    Looked deliberate.
McNaughton didn't even have the courtesy to apologise like.

    Sad stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭peabutler

    What an overeaction.

    1. He was keeping the ball in play-Job done
    2. Having done that he was about to step off the grass onto astro turf which is on the edge of many pitches, he stays on the grass rather than slipping on his arse and hit's Massey. He didn't accelerate.
    3. We don't know he didn't say sorry or give a thums up as mentioned.
    4. All the people moaning about how disgraceful it is because Massey is female are themselves being sexist. If it was on purpose as suggested it shouldn't make a difference if the linesperson is male or female.

In fact it is clear that he is trying to get back on the pitch to play the ball scrap the astro turf theory. He doesn't even look at Massey.

Because he just walked off in a huff thinking he was some sort of hard man. From the footage viewed it looked like he had no intention of seeing if the lino was alright. Ive seen loads of players do this. Its sickening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 181 ✭✭D/C

I don't think he meant it, he changed direction because the ball was still kept in play! He really should of apologised, whether the assistant was a man or woman, you'd expect him to say sorry and check if he/she was ok.

Did he say anything to her after the game?

Thats how it looked to me, he just turned his back and walked off, pretty scummy thing to do regardless of gender.

There's a big difference in shouldering a 15 Stone Male and an 8 stone Woman to the ground.

jesus the amount of people saying its deliberate is ridiculous

he kept the ball in play and shifted direction to get round the player, but happened to run into massey who was inthe way instead

bad form not seeing of she was ok, but it was nothing close to deliberate ffs

Anyone else notice the linesman looks like a chick?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,595 ✭✭✭bonerm

    Looks deliberate to me.

Reminds me of baseball stories where Jackie Robinson (the first black player in the Major League) was deliberately targeted for extra physiciality from players who felt "he didn't belong there". Manager Branch Rickey told him to laugh off and never react (which Robinson did) and his behavior was seen as a major factor in helping other blacks breakthru and become accepted. I'm betting someone forewarned Massey that stuff like this might happen and I'm glad she reacted in a similar manner.

There was plenty of space on the grass behind her for him to stay on if he wanted to. Also it's an impressive bending of physics to slip in a direction against gravity.

As for the "sexist" thing, I would imagine most of it is down to her size, she's not a big woman in any direction.

I watched the match and for the 90 minutes did not see him apologise.
It would have been simple to at least give her a hand up, or just say sorry and get it over with rather than running away like.
