I do have to agree with you that it can be awkward trying to find things you might want, he could make the site with some starter off instructions, but he keeps saying that this is`nt for beginners, then I said well your always going to get new people, beginners and all wanting to try it out so if you had things laid out better you would`nt have to deal with all the annoying questions, like my GPS aint working, etc.

I`d like to try Darky`s latest but, I`ve read so many story`s of people having trouble with the installation, I`m not saying that that`s because of the ROM, but he has one of the biggest following I`ve seen and they can`t all be beginners?

Any ways, when my battery dies I`m going to try the Crysis theme, but I`d say I`ll have to revert back to 220 DPI, many theme don`t support MDPI.

OK. Don't know what thread to ask this in now but here goes.

See the bit above in bold regarding the installation of Darky's
Could one just flash Inanity's EZBAse and then flash Darky's ROM v10 via CWM?

From my understanding yes. Afaik EZbase is basically the base install of gingerbread, i.e. the new bootloaders. It seems to be basically the same as any other Odin. Or you could install Insanity 8.2 and if you don't like it go to Darkys via CWM after you've tried insanity. ;)

    What about Resurrection?

    EZBase 3.0 is Gingerbread.

There ya go, that`s how much I`ve been keeping up with Darky`s ROM, lol sorry man, I`m in the middle of re-flashing 8.2RC a theme went a bit side ways and I was getting loads of FC`s, nothing worse...

Edit: Here`s the new Insanity boot animation screen if anyone`s interested....

We`ll probably see it in 8.2 final.

If that's the case it may be helpfull for the OP to change the title of the thread to mention that.

    I've only used Darky meself.

What advantages would ye recon there are for me to switch over to insanity?

If you look the link to the ROM itself is there with all the info, can`t get anymore helpful than that.....thanks to Ste-

I`m pretty sure its only for SGS, I`ve never seen a mention of any other phone, with any ROM the compatible phones are always listed in the first post.

Every ROM has its advantages, depending on what you want you`ll have to read up each ROM.

I flashed to insanity 8.1 last week. Great battery but getting a good few FC on the internet and the UI randomly reboots itself.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

I `ve read a few people saying there getting some random reboots and here`s my take on it, YOU NEED A NEW PHONE!! lol

As we all know when flashing a new ROM the cleaner the phone is before hand the better the flash will go, so when I jumped to 8.2RC the first flash I deleted EVERYTHING off of both SD cards and I had no random reboots, a few FC`s but they sorted themselves out and all was good.

Then two days ago I had to re-flash 9.2RC again, a theme went side ways on me, but I did`nt do the same procedure again, I just flashed is from CWM and all looked good, but then I had about 2-3 random reboots, but no FC`s.
Since then I`ve had no issues, now as to what is causing them, I don`t know.

How did you go about the flash?

Most times ROM`s just need time to settle down, like the battery does, a few manual restarts usually does the trick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭cwboy

I followed a post on XDA to flash the ROM. I tried EZbase 2 first and tried to flash insanity but that didnt work and after reading around here I found out that I needed Ezbase 3. Flash worked fine then but have been getting the FC since. Very annoying. I moved from Darky because I wasnt getting good battery but the FC are really bugging me at this stage and I might go back.

Did you disable any and all lagfixs, did you change the file system before you flashed it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 312 ✭✭cwboy

Cant remember the lagfixes. Didnt do anything about filesystem. Didnt see it mentioned in the how-to i followed

Not disabling the lagfixes can sometime cause problems in a new ROM, the best thing I can suggest is a total wipe and start from scratch, that way you know there`s nothing lingering from previous ROM/kernel etc....

do you mean do a wipe in CWM?

Some people do factory/reset in CWM, its a good thing, I can`t remember if I did that or not, I just hooked my phone up to the laptop and deleted everything off of both SD cards and then flash went great, I`ve read people doing a factory reset after flashing to.

If I delete everything from the internal card will I still have access to download mode and recovery mode? I presume so. Might give it a go at the weekend.

Yup and yup and it worked for me.

I came across this very helpful video, it explains the basic`s of ROM`s/flashing/do`s & dont`s.

It should come in handy for any new comers.

I deleted everything from the cards and tried to install using EZOdin.

It is now in CWM and says
    Instaling Multi CSC
    Cant access to '/system.csc.XEN/system/'
    Successfully applies multi-csc

Should I now just reboot? I remember getting that error about cant access system/....... the last time.

I rebooted and installed Insanity but I am now getting a Force close on phone setup wizard. I cant get any further as it restarts and crashes over and over. This could be the end of insanity for me.

EDIT: it was a problem when connecting to my wireless network. When I didnt connect it let me finish. Will see how it goes now.

Yes that is a known issue, now that your on it flash the relevant packs and your set.

Those who are still on froyo and don't want to go to gingerbread can still try Insanity 7.2.
The last (so far) froyo insanity rom.
Download here. Just flash with CWM after backing up etc etc.

I wonder myself if its going to be the last for a good while, the place is dead...

After paying with it for a while last night I decided to flash back to Darky. The random reboots of the UI and the force closes of the browser and the video players drove me insane.

I could be tempted back to Insanity because the attery life for me on Darky is shocking but I am not going to 8.1 again.

    Will consider 7 maybe.

I`m going to give 8.3 a go later on tonight, it seems to be trimmed even more, I hope its not to trimmed.

Once you get the relevant starter packs everything is good to go.

Edit: well I`m half way there, so far no problems, I had one reboot while installing some apps from Nitrality, but tried again and it worked, I`ll keep you posted.

Edit Edit: Well I`m on 8.3 and so far its looking good, had a good go of everything battery held up very well, **** even on of the Insanity crew members said...battery went from 100% to 15% in 2 hours, back on a beta. Got random reboots and continuous media scanning too, turned that off in nitrality...of course this did`nt happen to me, I had to laugh at that one, hehehe

This seems to be better than 8.2RC..
Lets hope this one just gets better!!!

Edit Edit:: For those of you that want to get rid of the constant on BLN and the Google maps rotation is in here to.....

    Hi all

I have installed the Insanity Rom v8.3 over the top of the EZBase package referenced on the second post of this thread. I like the speed of it when i can use it :)

I have a problem with it constantly rebooting though. It lasts no more than 5 minutes before it reboots and it is driving me flaming crazy.

    Steps I have tried

    Reinstalled EZBase
    Wiped Davlik Cache
    Wiped Battery Stats
Formated every mount point under CWM
    Reinstalled EZBase again
    Reinstalled Insanity

    Still Reboots

    Anyone got any ideas?

I'm on Darky's v10 and am getting reboots too. Maybe it's something to do with the Gingerbread base itself.
Try flashing a different modem. Go back to your old modem maybe.

Think i have fixed it. I managed to download ext4 tools to the sdcard and ran the ext to rfs converter. It appears that I had an incomplete conversion from a previous rom.

Does Insanity support the ext4 filesystem?

If I were you I`d wipe both SD cards and do it again, the cleaner the better!!

I think it does, I`m not 100% sure.

I`m finding JQ1 modem very good, before I could never send MMS, now it seems I can, just a little problem with one person`s MMS.

Might do at some point, a little scared to at the moment as the rom is actually functioning as it should be.

If i get the urge to do it i will post back here my findings.

It does ya. Kanity kernel or Damian kernel give you the option to convert file system to ext2 or ext4

Well I`ve read a lot of peoples reviews of JVH and they say its a step up from JVB, very few if any complaints, no where near as many as JVB had.

I won`t be doing it for the time being, I tend to stay back and let others who have the patience and time deal with it, lol.

Yeah I know, funny thing is I bought widget locker before I guess I could use that. Having the 5 lockscreens was just easier and I like the Epic one. Which I don't think you can do with widgetlocker. ah well off to experiment.

When you gonna take the plunge ? I hear some themes are resulting in bootloops like the one I had. Just make sure to nandroid backup as usual before flashing anything.
