Annoying 30-Somethings

I find myself at every social occasion I go to being confronted by one of friends, with their bugged eyed kids, asking "When are you going to calm down, stop drinking, find yourself a girl and start a family" (As if life is a Cat Stevens song), to which I normally reply "When are you going to get a Vasectomy and do the world a favour?"
Why do people think that just because they are happy cleaning childrens vomit, you should want that life as well.
Dont get me wrong, this is not a rant against children, I like kids, they're like little drunk Mexicans, in fact I still class myself as one, however Im not the Parenting type.
I like drink, rock'n'roll, fast women and other things that are not in line with having kids.
Am I the only one in his thirties that feels like this???

Stop going to those social occasions or get some new friends?

other people just like justifying their boredom by trying to get you to conform , no amount of puking ****ting screaming little meat bags and houses / pets / mortgages could ever replace the thrill of a crate of beer , a few sluts and cold pizza the next morning

There's nothing wrong with deciding to have fun & not settle down in your thirties.

But there's also nothing sadder than seeing 40 something man, still living the bachelor life & thinking that he's still in his 20s.

They're insufferable. Also, why do they always think that they're the first person ever to have a kid?

a 40 year old woman whos been left on the shelf and has resorted to having her married mates set her up with any man they can find and it always ending the same way...the chap leaving in the morning and her crying over ben and jerrys while browsing through eHarmony

You said that in front of the kids?

Why do they invite you to those things!?

I THINK you were going for "fast cars" there. I don't generally see the reason behind liking a woman because she can run particularly fast.....where...where does it get you?

"Left on the shelf" - how very retro and conformist. Well, I would expect nothing less from AH, to be honest.

No, what you just wrote makes no sense!

"Left on the shelf" = old-fashioned bollox. Much better to be single at 40 than settling for whatever.

It's not their age that makes them ask questions like that. It's their inability to keep their opinions to themselves.
I think that most people see settling down/having kids as a natural progression and can be a little suspicious when you don't conform. I also reckon that there will be the odd one or two who would be jealous of your circumstances but would never admit it.
I'm a mother but I have to say I really admire people who choose not to have kids in the face of overwhelming pressure they can be put under from family and friends. I can totally see the benefits of living your life childless.
I used to get guilt tripped regularly for not supplying my little guy with a sibling, not so much now he's a teenager but when he was younger certainly. Laugh it off, there will come a time when they stop asking (then you will know you're truly old);)

They're insufferable. Also, why do they always think that they're the first person ever to have a kid?

Why do non parents believe parents think this way? It's a nonsense to suggest this is so.

As a parent, I don't give a sh!t whether other people want kids or not. Why do so many non parents seem so bothered by the fact other people do wish to have kids?

I would agree with the OP that anyone who makes such stupid comments to a young guy is out of line, but the vasectomy comment is just as stupid. Just tell em it's none of their business what you do with your life.

I would never say something so pr!ckish to one of my single friends.

You should hang out with David Attenborough. He wouldn't complain about your choice not to have children.

Here's a fast woman you might like by the way.

Well... I didnt really want to get all serious on this and all......but the man's right...all we do as humans is breed and consume more than we need..we are a plague, and the earth is suffering for it.
People talking about mass starvation in the world..how about sterilization...that might solve a few problems...and yes, Im aware I spelt that wrong.

It wouldn't bother me if my friends don't have kids, infact if they are considering kids I'm willing to tell them about how much work it takes to raise and take care of them. Personally I'm more worried about friends being alone and unhappy.
