Hydration and energy

For about a year I drank about a pint of water a day while drinking beer regularly and coffee which are both diuretics.

this resulted in prolonged mild dehydration and the associated effects of low energy, dry flaky skin, dark circles and reduced appetite.

i have increased my water intake to 3 litres and cut out coffee and drink one day a week.

i have seen a large increase in energy levels and mood.

what is your own ideal amount of water or non diretic drinks daily to help achieve optimal energy levels?

would you recommend isotonic drinks or is water just as good?

any difference in tap or distilled?

Is this hydration for sport, or general well being?

If you want to have a sports drink just for general rehydration, drink a hypotonic drink.

Personally between clean water and water used in shakes etc. Im drinking 4litres on my rest days, and 6litres on gym days.

Im jogging about 4 miles every other day.

I will be joining a gym soon to fill in the off days.

    reasonable active otherwise.

im pushing myself a bit to get 3 litres as i dont have a desk job and am on the move regularly so forget to keep sipping during the day. Any tips?
