Not sure if this is the right forum.....

A month back, during soccer training I injured my knee (most painful injury ive ever had). Have been going to the physio for the month once a week, and at the last visit he told me I could go back training although to take it easy. He told me I had a grade one sprain each side of the knee from the injury.

Anyways cut to this evening, knee still feeling a bit dodgy I was taking it easy untill suddenly I heard a bit of a light crunching sound and felt a light sprain again in the knee to the point where I stopped training, and it was slightly throbbing.

So...ive decided im just going to go into the doctor monday and ask him to organise an MRI scan on the knee as clearly the physio was wrong about it being grand but what im wondering is will my health insurance cover it?

Im on Plan A with VHI and I really want this scan because after a month of going to the physio for it just to break down in my first training back is driving me nuts.

If im not covered how much am I looking at for an MRI?

    Thanks.

I got an MRI done and it cost me €450 in Sports surgery clinic in Santry. May be cheaper elsewhere, however you don't have to wait too long on it. Results were looked at that day by a surgeon (another €120 for the first consult)

I had to pay up front and then got 60% of the MRI cost (i think) back. I was on VHI plan b options.

    Hope this helps.

It depends completely on the type of cover you have and how good it is. A lot of the health insurers only will cover certain hospitals and clinics, I know on my insurance I'm covered for everything everywhere except the Beacon. So I have to pay full whack for anything I get done there. Make sure you know what you're entitled to yourself as they won't tell you voluntarily:)
